Vall de Nuria

The sheer joy of gliding, of enjoying myself above the snow. How it flowed, how I glided; I even thought I saw King Juan Carlos. Then I'd come back, snort some snow and have a nice hot chocolate, and I was so happy. I highly recommend the experience; it's the perfect place to sledding and also to enjoy some snow.

You wake up in the valley, the air still cool and breathtakingly mountainous. You board the famous cogwheel train that winds up the mountain, gaining altitude as the forest opens up to a white clearing. You arrive at Vall de Núria, where the snow casts a silent blanket beneath peaks that reach almost 3,000 m. You put on your skis and start on a blue run to loosen your body. Then you climb a little higher and choose a red run that descends between the trees, with an icy wind on your face and the thrill of "here I am, in the mountains." Later, you decide to take on the black run "Pala Bestia" (or whatever adrenaline rush it offers), feeling the change of pace, the tighter turn, the slope that pushes you forward. At midday, you stop on the terrace, look out over the valley, watch the snow glisten in the sun, share a laugh or a hot chocolate. In the afternoon, you explore another corner: perhaps cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or simply contemplating the landscape. You end the day feeling satisfied, knowing that this resort isn't the largest, but it is one of the most authentic. You leave wanting to return. 🔍 Fun Facts Vall de Núria is located in the Ripollès region (Girona), within the Ribes Valley, surrounded by peaks almost 3,000 meters high. It's accessible almost exclusively by rack railway: the popular rack railway that climbs 12.5 km and covers more than 1,000 meters of elevation gain, adding an extra experience to your day of skiing. The Vall de Núria ski resort offers approximately 7.6 km of skiable area and 11 runs (3 green, 3 blue, 3 red, and 2 black). Approximate minimum elevation: 1,964 m; maximum elevation: 2,252 m. This altitude helps ensure better snow in this area of the Eastern Pyrenees. It's ideal for beginners, families, and those looking for a more relaxing day of skiing. If you prefer a day with more sun, slightly milder temperatures, but still good snow, late February to early March can work very well. For smaller crowds, fewer "crowds," and a more intimate experience, January—weekdays—is an excellent option. A tip: since this is a resort with special access (rack-lift) and is located in the high mountains, always check the snow report and the condition of the lifts, as although the altitude is good, there are factors that can affect operation. If you're traveling with children or as a family, keep in mind that the resort also offers complementary activities, making it more versatile beyond just skiing.

The Vall de Núria is a spectacular place, with unique landscapes and a magical atmosphere. The mountain experience was unforgettable; the views are worth it. However, at the rack railway station, we had an unpleasant experience with an older man who was disrespectful and treated us very poorly. It was a bad moment that clashed with the rest of the trip. I just hope they improve customer service at the station so we can all enjoy the full experience.
