Van Der Valk Rotterdam Blijdorp

Nice hotel. Unfortunately for me the pace in which the staff run around the bar even when not busy shows a lack of experience and ruins a relaxed environment. The young bar manager seems to have his staff on edge. Not a pleasant bar to sit at even with low traffic.

Not at all satisfied. Four days in a row, I received the wrong orders. I ordered bananas but got apples, and brown bread was repeatedly replaced with white bread. Each time, the front desk staff said it would be better next time, but it never happened. The service was rude, and when I mentioned my dietary requirements, I was referred to McDonald's. I find this highly unprofessional.

I'm staying at this hotel for four nights for work. Although I have a pretty high opinion of Van der Valk, this location ruined my experience with the chain within 24 hours. 1. The hotel offers a packed lunch option, which is ideal if you're out late for work. The packed lunch costs €16.50, which is equivalent to an average dish on the lunch menu. Although it wasn't clear what to expect, I opted for the packed lunch given my positive experience with the Valk restaurant. Unfortunately, my packed lunch was a dreary assortment of two or three dry rolls (you probably know the kind you get in a bag of 10 at larger supermarkets), accompanied by an apple and a cookie. The roll wasn't fresh, and the requested butter and toppings were missing. 2. The rooms are very noisy. The extractor fan, in particular, produces 48 decibels, but also the noise from the lobby or neighboring rooms makes staying in the room very unpleasant. 3. The restaurant is unfortunately different from what I'm used to at Van der Valk. I suspect the staff lacks the experience to take the correct order. For example, a venison steak was served overcooked without asking. Furthermore, my experience was that the waitstaff paid no attention to serving or refilling wine with a dish. After sharing my dissatisfaction with the hotel manager, I was promised that things would improve from now on. Unfortunately, these were empty promises. Today in the restaurant, everything went terribly wrong. There were a total of seven occupied tables. There was a manager and two waitstaff. In addition, there was a staff behind the bar. The waitress was anything but professional. For example, she openly insulted the kitchen staff by saying the celeriac steak was disgusting, but then referred my colleague to McDonald's when he mentioned he was on a diet. The lady in question started an argument when I asked for a different table, but also showed no regard for me as a guest. After waiting about an hour, the starter was served. After consuming it, it took a while for the table to be partially cleared. When the main course arrived, there was some fumbling because the table still needed to be cleared. As if it wasn't clumsy enough, they forgot to set the cutlery. Before I could even speak to the waiter, she had already left, making it impossible to get in touch. After waiting a few minutes and being unable to speak to the waitress, I left. Although some things weren't entirely perfect, the staff were friendly and helpful in offering solutions. I'll take my experiences into account when making my next visit to Van der Valk.
