Vintners Resort

This is a hard review. The place is full of potential but like many hotels post pandemic it suffers from organization, management and lack of on-site experience (despite amenities). I will note that this review is more critical given the high prices to stay at this property. The poor review is an amalgamation of a large number of small things. The potential is around a few intrinsic characteristics of the property and design decisions. The good: The rooms were tastefully remodeled, especially the bathrooms with soaking tubs. The setting in the vineyards with the path for guests is not common and you should use it every morning. The morning fog in the vineyards gives you that Petaluma Gap feeling and the clear sunsets at night the Sonoma aura. The trees, landscaping and general feeling are calming. The (potential) amenities are tasteful. The food at the restaurant didn’t live up to the price but it was good for being on location. The oysters were delicious but overwhelming with cucumber toppings (overpowered any taste of the oysters). Service was good at the restaurant. They also have local partnerships for free tastings. Two are nice properties and mediocre wines. But, don’t sleep on Croix which is one of the best tasting rooms I’ve been to in the region. Last but not least, the location to the vineyards, Healdsburg, Santa Rosa and amenities nearby was great. The bad: It sounds like a small thing, but the water temperature was a huge miss. A soaking tub or a nice shower is a massive downside when the water is lukewarm warm. Especially when that it what you paid for. There was no space for luggage despite the quite large size of the room. The fixings were high end but the thought on arrangement was not. The lack of space for luggage is a big downside. There’s a huge patio but very cheap and small chairs makes it essentially unusable - note if you bring a dog you can only have the first floor. The “resort” has lots of amenities but many were closed and several events like tastings were canceled or empty. It didn’t give a lively and homey feel. You felt a bit like you were in a ghost town. That was actually a common theme throughout the property. In fact, if you need something in the evening, you cannot find anyone in the lobby. Besides being a security concern, you cannot reach them on the room phone either. But, if you call the reservation number they answer quickly. It gives the feeling they care more about future customers vs current guests. To the point of current guests, on arrival they promise a welcome glass of sparkling. You could see it open but it wasn’t offered. It was awkward asking for a glass and more awkward when they made it seem like they were doing a favor (the room was high three figures a night). The site also promises a bottle of wine in your room but it’s a half bottle of cheap Kendall Jackson. The mini fridge is empty and doesn’t cool. If you want a snack, you can pay $17 for a small (less than sandwich bread) vegetarian sandwich in the lobby or $8 for a croissant. A drop coffee will set you back five bucks. And they don’t proactively refill your coffee pods in the room without asking. General informational notes: - The property is by the highway and when outside you will hear highway noise. Don’t pay attention to posts saying it’s light. However, this is a known going into it. - I’m not sure if they’re dead, but the beautiful Ivy you see in the photos is not active in the “off season” despite nearby villages it thriving. It seems there may be a problem. It changes the whole vibe. - They offer free electric charging including Tesla chargers which was a very nice touch and money saver. - The sunrises and sunsets are unbelievable. I want to love this place and it has the potential to be one of the best in the area. Unfortunately, it isn’t and it has a long way to go. The good news is that it’s mostly operational and keep up (besides the highway). Some adjustments and this could be a 4.5 review.
