We Hotel Toya was our favourite stay so far in Japan. If you are wanting a peaceful and serene experience, this is the perfect place for you. The hotel overlooks the lake, offering beautiful views. The staff were incredibly attentive and went above and beyond for us, including for dietary restrictions and also whilst organising the shuttle bus. I would recommend having a car to be able to explore the area, however we managed to do so using the complementary shuttle bus service. The open air bath on the balcony was a very nice way to relax. The buffet breakfast was also delicious. I cannot recommend We Hotel Toya enough. I am also in disbelief at some of the negative reviews of the hotel - they could not be further from our experience.

The environment, design, service, and rooms were all excellent. I only had breakfast. The first day was a set breakfast, which I was very satisfied with—the presentation, taste, and portion size were all 9/10. The second day, for some reason, it switched to a buffet. The food was basically the same, with a slightly more variety, but it felt much worse than the first day. The public bathhouse had a nice decor and a great view, but the outdoor water temperature was completely insufficient. It was warm enough during the day, but at night it felt like only 30 degrees Celsius, completely ruining the design. In summary, I would say it's worth a try, but the hotel has a lot of room for improvement.

Beautiful hotel with the most stunning views, we woke up for sunrise and it felt like we were in the clouds. The outdoor onsen was perfect, we used it 3 times during our 2 night stay! Service was fantastic, best speaking English staff which was not expected considering it’s such a small town. The hotel is on the other side of the lake opposite the onsen town so it’s a bit far away - about 20 min for town and 30 min to JR station. They offer a free shuttle service which was fantastic. Need to pre-book in advance though, we just did it the day before and it was great. Breakfast was great both days, got the ala carte first day and buffet 2nd day - preferred the buffet as there were heaps of options.
