For the price we paid, it was a decent stay with a spacious room and convenient location near shops and Sequoia National Park. However, when we arrived to check in, a temporary receptionist named HEATHER asked for the usual information, then insisted her computer system required proof of passport. I immediately felt racially profiled. I've never been asked for my passport at hotels, not even when traveling internationally to Germany, France, or smaller towns like Joshua Tree or Sedona. Standard hotel protocol requires identification, typically a driver's license. Instead of asking for that, she demanded my passport and was extremely insistent. Feeling uncomfortable with her demeanor and evident racial discrimination, I provided my military ID instead. She said she didn't know what that was and needed my passport so she could enter the numbers into her system. I eventually gave in. She looked at my passport, stared at me, and asked where I was coming from. I said [insert city name]. When she saw I was born in a different country than the US, she said, "Oh, and you are from [said country], huh?" I replied, "No, I am coming from [insert city]. Your questions do not make sense." I then asked if my California ID would work instead, and she said, "Oh yeah, that's perfect!" This proved she never needed the passport in the first place. I left in shock. At that moment, I didn't know whether she was being racist, but as I've processed this, she totally had a racist undertone, and for her to represent this hotel is disgraceful and heartbreaking. The next morning at checkout, I dropped off my key at the office window because nobody was there. We returned later when HEATHER was present and respectfully asked for a receipt confirming no charges on our card and requested she delete my profile entirely, as I was concerned about my passport number and credit card information being saved in their system. As the conversation progressed, she had a strong negative demeanor. She said she didn't have the authority to give us a receipt unless the hotel owner came in. We were told the owner wasn't coming until later, but a business card was there and we could call them. We called that number... and the phone rang right in front of us. She made it seem as if the manager had that phone. Because we kept pressing for the receipt due to our discomfort with how we were treated and the personal information she had collected, she said she had enough of us. She threatened to call the cops and said she was going to get Mario, the maintenance manager, to handle the situation. We were relieved to finally get help from an actual manager. If police came, we had proof she was discriminating against customers and wasn't providing help without any aggression from us. Mario, the maintenance manager, is an amazing addition to this hotel's team. He's the person the hotel owner assigned to handle situations like this. He was very apologetic about HEATHER's actions from check-in to checkout and was confused why she asked for my passport, didn't accept my military ID, and was being unprofessional about the receipt. He called two other receptionists for help. Maria was another amazing team member who mediated between us and HEATHER, ensuring HEATHER would delete our profile and communicating thoroughly about the receipt situation. The workers also mentioned that the owner of the hotel was not going to come back until in a couple of days because of an emergency this is a detail in which HEATHER had previously LIED about and was expecting us to wait for the owner until they came even though she clearly knew they weren't coming any time soon... Having started an interaction with someone who has implicit bias, to the extreme that I couldn't get a simple printed receipt and was threatened with police for requesting documentation, I won't return to this establishment while she represents it. Mario and Maria were wonderful, but one employee's discriminatory behavior has tainted what could have been a pleasant stay near Sequoia National Park.

Horrible!! The worst hotel I've ever seen! I should have slept in my car instead of staying in this hotel! Dirty, broken curtains, no hot water, insects, and an unbearable smell in the room and especially in the reception area!! Avoid at all costs!!

It's a budget hotel don't get me wrong. I knew it wouldn't be a 5 star resort. But the walls are paper thin and there were ants in the bed from the get-go... When checking out we told the rude desk worker about the ants but she did not want to hear about their ant problem, saying "I don't care, give me the room key", then she went back to talking on the phone. Definitely won't be going back. But If you like rude service, hearing construction all day, getting bit up by ants while you sleep, using appliances that BARELY work, and want to hear what your neighbors are talking about all night while you sleep..... Then check it out! It might be your type of place!
