A very friendly, competent, and confident trainee handled both my check in and check out, which made a great first and last impression. Unfortunately, there was no room upgrade despite my status. The hotel also felt rather empty overall — I hardly saw other guests around — which made it a little surprising. That said, of course I can’t know whether there were actually no upgraded rooms available. Interestingly, before arrival I was offered several paid upgrade options to different room categories multiple times. The room itself was modern, stylish, and very well designed, with a clean and elegant layout that felt both comfortable and high quality. The bed was fantastic — extremely comfortable and perfect for a good night’s sleep. One thing I personally found disappointing, though, was that the minibar was empty. In a five star hotel, that always feels a bit underwhelming. That said, I received around three upselling emails before the stay, which felt a bit annoying — especially for a hotel in this category. After all, this isn’t a three star hotel. It came across a little desperate. What also bothered me was that these emails arrived before anyone had asked whether I might need help with anything related to my stay, such as arrival details or other arrangements. The Wi Fi was very poor on the first day and only slightly better on the second, but still quite slow. The room was also a bit noisy in the morning — I could clearly hear housekeeping in the neighbouring room and activity in the hallway. Of course, all of this is ultimately complaining at a high level — but at a hotel of this level you naturally also have higher expectations. Overall, I still had a very nice stay, and the price performance was excellent.

After several years, we returned to the Grand for a weekend. It was wonderful once again. The service at breakfast and reception is very attentive, something we noticed even back then. The rooms are beautifully furnished. The beds are heavenly, and we even bought the mattresses for home. You simply sleep very well here… We always love coming back.
