I had the opportunity to go there a few years ago. The spectacular view of Mount Yari from the open-air bath was amazing. There's nothing nearby, so if you want to experience something out of the ordinary, this is a great inn to stay at, have good meals, and soak in the hot springs multiple times. The majestic sound of the clear stream sucking up the flowing hot water and the huge sacred rock (?) sitting majestically on the riverside were lit up at night, creating a magical atmosphere.

A very cosy place just a 5 minute walk away from the nearest bus stop, situated by the side of the river and mountain ranges no matter where you look. 5 private baths; 2 that used to be the old male/female baths and 3 just outside the main building. One has both a wooden bath with a standing tub, another has a wooden phallic statue in the changing room and the third has a swing. The last 2 have a running tap of ice-cold groundwater from Mt. Sugoroku (for drinking I assumed). Each bath is first come first served; you take the marker from the front counter and hang it by the door when in use. Barely had to wait unless you were eyeing a particular bath.

It's easy to see why this place is said to have the best open-air baths in the area. With a river flowing nearby and the surrounding mountains and trees, it's a quiet and relaxing place where time seems to slow down, creating a truly picturesque atmosphere. Best of all, there are three private open-air baths that are irresistible to hot spring lovers. There are signs to mark the baths, and guests take one with them when they want to use them. There's even a playful open-air bath with a swing. Even though they're private, there's no extra charge. There are also separate jacuzzi baths for men and women with continuously flowing hot spring water. It's located in the Okuhida Onsenkyo area, on the way to the Shinhotaka Ropeway. With only a few rooms, it has a very calm atmosphere. It seems to be quite difficult to get a reservation, but apparently there are cancellations, so please contact the inn directly and give it a try.
