Yutorelo Nikko Hostel

The room was clean and the staff were both polite and pleasant. There is a wonderful lake view lounge and an adjacent game room that you can use to spend a couple of hours away. Sadly, there is a distinct lack of amenities and stores open during winter, so please bear that in mind when you visit the area during this period. We were also unable to visit the restaurant, as we were told that we had to make a reservation in advance, a choice which was not presented to us, prior to our arrival. Overall, it was a pleasant visit, and we will most certainly consider staying here again next year. However, this time, we'll be sure to bring along more food.

Had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Bus pick up from Nikko station is free. Easy self check in and check out. Nice rooms. Great view of the lake. The Hot Springs were comfortable and have both indoor and outdoor baths. Loved the dinner. Many choices to choose from. Staff were excellent and very professional. There is an hourly Tobu Bus stop back to the station close by. Staff speak English very well. I would come here again. Free drinks after check in. Lounge area is a nice place to hang out.

Long story short, the strong points are the location (beautiful view on the lake Chuzenji), the lounge (with board games, free sweets and open bar). The dinner was good (beef teppanyakied and a buffet). What is correct: the baths are ok, the outside bath is nice but it lacks a view to the lake. The rooms: interesting combination of western and Japanese style influence. I saw in the comments that there were complaints that the rooms were too old but ours was ok. The bed were a little bit too hard for us. Also I was woken up once during the night by door noises. The personnel is helping but sometimes too busy. The breakfast was ok too. Weak points: the carpet notably in the commons are stained. The table in our room was also stained (not a matter of improper cleaning, the stains won't remove even if you rub it). I also found some popcorn under my bed: don't forget to clean below the bed too. To sum-up, we had a rather good experience, very relaxing, and with a little effort on cleaning/renewal I don't doubt that 3 stars (minimum) are at hand. Note to the owner: I saw many people slipping on the stairs going down to the rotenburo, as the fake grass tiles that are on the stairs are moving...I wonder if it's not more dangerous with the tiles than without them...
