We arrived today to find the doors locked, even though the bag and the website both stated it was open from 12 pm to 11 pm. We weren't the only ones who made the trip in vain. This is especially frustrating when you're traveling with someone who has difficulty walking.

We've stayed at this charming hotel in a prime location in Hattingen several times. The rooms are a mix of 80s charm, carefully renovated, and half-timbered flair. This time, we stayed overnight on December 22, 2025, and unfortunately, we weren't quite so lucky with our room. It was on the second floor, quite small, and the bathroom door was peeling paint onto the tiled floor. That's why it didn't quite earn five stars. However, the room was impeccably maintained, very clean and tidy, and the beds were very comfortable. Apart from the size and the bathroom door, everything was fantastic! We spent the evening in the restaurant with four other friends and ate there as well. The food was excellent – we had absolutely no complaints. The service staff at our table were exceptionally friendly and attentive – unfortunately, not always a given these days – so I definitely want to mention them. Breakfast is very simple. Besides a few types of bread and rolls, there are various cold cuts and cheeses, scrambled eggs, cereals, a variety of sweet and savory spreads, and a few yogurt options – nothing fancy, but everything is tasty, fresh, and plentiful. Personally, we don't need anything more to start the day off right. The location is particularly noteworthy. It's right in the old town, and all the shops, the market/Christmas market, and nice restaurants are within easy walking distance. The only downside to the location might be that you can't drive up to the hotel or park on-site. However, since we arrange for drop-off and pick-up, this isn't an issue for us. In conclusion: A very charming hotel in a prime location with good, down-to-earth food at reasonable prices and friendly service – we'll be back!
