The advertising for the tour was misleading and vague. Company provided private transportation to Cordoba in a taxi, with a driver and another person, who served as translator, but not as a tour guide.  They were able to provide few specifics of the itinerary beyond that a tour guide would meet us at the Mezquita. But they did not know what would be included in our tour, or how long it would be, as they were on the trip for "transportation". They dropped us off at the Mezquita and there we met the guide they had arranged. Our guide was good, and spoke good English, but the tour included about another dozen people. That was the only tour the company provided, not even a brief city tour.  This guide was also offering an extended tour of the Jewish quarters for another 18 euros, as the company had only provided the cheapest option. We could have paid the extra money for the additional tour, but that would have let us with only 1/2 hour for lunch and to walk around on our own. This guide was quite good, and spoke good English.   Our trip cost well over 200 euros per person. It seems oddly designed. We got the private transportation (though would have been fine with a group), but no private tour. Why have 1 driver, and 1 other person who basically was there just to tell you in English where to meet the driver, and when? Better to just provide an English speaking driver, to keep costs down. Or, better yet, extend the tour by 1-2 hours and provide a city tour with the 2nd person. We got much better value from a tour we took from San Sebastian to Bilbao, with an English speaking driver who functioned as tour guide too, and lunch provided, at much less than half the price of this tour. We feel anger and disappointment at what was provided on this tour. On a positive note, the Mezquita is incredible.

LCL-travels

Originally built in 785, the Mezquita (Great Mosque of Cordoba) has been expanded and modified many times -- including the insertion of chapels after the Moors were forced out of Spain and a Catholic cathedral in the 16th century,. Our guide Anna has lived and was educated in Cordoba. She made the history and interior fascinating as she walked us through the massive structure. Since we were on a cruise that stopped in Malaga, we booked this tour to include transportation to and from Cordoba. Our guide/driver Enrique works as a tour guide in other parts of Spain and provided us with mini-tours during our 2-hour drives between Malaga and Cordoba. If you book this tour through Discovering Spain, be aware that their online descriptions are misleading. This is NOT a private tour. The only private portion was the drive between Malaga and Cordoba. Also the tour description lists "a stop in the Jewish Quarter." Their stop does not include a tour and there was an additional charge of 40 Euros per person for a guided tour of the Jewish Quarter. Also, there were communication issues between our driver and the touring company. The tour guide never met us at the location where we were told to wait. We contacted our driver, who found out that unknown to him the meeting place had been changed. We were told to walk to another building several blocks away that we had no idea how to find. We ultimately missed the first 15 minutes of the tour for which we charged an additional fee. Visiting and touring the Great Mosque of Cordoba was a highlight of our trip to Spain -- despite issues with Discovering Spain.
