Medina Azahara, Castilianization of the Arabic name, مدينة الزهراء Madīnat al-Zahrā ("the brilliant city"), was a palatine or Aulic city that ordered the construction of the first caliph of Córdoba, Abderramán III, about 8 km outside of Cordova.
