A great 4 hour tour - two spectacular vistas, a taste of local liqueurs and biscuits, a very fun tobaggan ride culminating in a wine tasting. We had a nice driver (Melly) with a god sense of humor best of all no lineup for the tobaggan.

Our tour guide was very friendly and thorough in explaining things and answering our questions along the way. He was accommodating to our schedule too. The sled ride down the hill from Monte was a lot of fun, and the visit to Nun’s valley was particularly interesting. The Madeira wine tasting was just OK - they didn’t really explain much and seemed to want us to hurry up.

To experience Madeira this half-day tour is a good introduction to the island. Our driver was fabulous and very professional. We truly felt like we had an appreciation for the island culture through our guides eyes. We like the personal touch the private tours offer.

Had my own driver on my own so got to do what i wanted on the tour . Only 4 hrs so packed a lot in . Guide was very informative. Loved the wine cellar at Henriques and Henriques . The queens favourite maderia wine Bought a bottle at 31.50 € but worth it Views from summit was stunning . Went to the oldest church on the island . Very pretty .

My husband and I did this tour in the afternoon. We were delight in all the sights. The Eire do Serrano presented a beautiful view of the island and all its hidden valleys. Curral das Freitas (Nuns Valley) is a quaint town. Monte is where we went sledding down the mountain road in a wicker sled. So much fun! Then we ended our tour at D’Oliveiras to sample Maderia wine and snack on honey cake.

Do not take this tour! I should have known that it wouldn’t go well when I got an email shortly after I booked it to reschedule to another day as there were no guides free. After explaining that I couldn’t, I was reassured that they had sorted it, and was promised a great tour. Well, on the day of the tour, a taxi showed up with the cab driver, Octavio, as the guide. He proceeded to drive us around the island, which was ok because there are some extraordinarily beautiful views on the island. However, our whole purpose for booking this tour (and our trip to Madeira) was because of the wine. So, upon arriving at the Olivet Wine lodge, we all discovered it was closed for the day. At that point, Octavio didn’t apologize but just said “Well, what can you do?” and proceeded to take us back to the hotel. During the drive back to the hotel, he suddenly launches into this racist tirade against a certain ethnic group and a specific religion, including the use of phrases like “They are ruining everything” and “They have to be stopped”. Upon our return to our hotel, a quick Google search revealed that this wine lodge closes at 1pm on Saturdays so this tour (which starts at 2 pm) should never have even been offered on a Saturday. However, this is all information that they should have known. I emailed the tour company and asked them for a refund, and they just ignored my email and did not respond.

This turned out to be a private tour for just the two of us. Our driver/guide Ruben was very nice, and he did a great job driving us around the island and showing us some very picturesque site of Madeira. We did wine tasting of Madeira wine, visited the Village of the Nuns and took a traditional ride in the baskets down the streets of Funchal. It is a beautiful place to visit, and you need to see it with a local, like Ruben!

This was a good tour, the Highlight of the trip the views at the top of Nun's valley. I thought we would have gotten the opportunity to visit a vineyard or cellar, instead we we to a local restaurant to try the Madeira wines. The wines were ok, and is an acquired tasted. This tour needs a more personal touch, and a vineyard trip or a tour to a wine maker would help, heck even a walk through a banana plantation would add more interest to the tour.

TOUR Review for the Half Day Traditions and Enchanting Valleys-Eira do Serrado, Curral das Freiras, Monte, Madeira Wine Tasting Tour Positives: Our INTERTOURS tour guide was very pleasant and efficiently picked us up at our hotel in Funchal and escorted us on a fantastic half-day journey through the Nuns Valley and Monet. Our guide took us to the Monet toboggan sled rides, took our photos, and picked us up at the bottom when the ride finished. He provided colorful stories of Madeira as he carefully navigated through the steep, treacherous cliffs of the Madeira island. We thoroughly enjoyed the locations that we visited on our half day tour, and definitely would never have been able to navigate on our own without a driving tour guide. We were amazed at the Curral das Freiras, or Nun’s Valley. The only negatives are the contents of the tour were very misleading. The highlight of the tour is definitely the Nun’s Valley and a brief stop at the church and tobbagan ride in Monet. The stop at the Eira do Serrado is nothing more than a tourist stop that misleads you into purchasing restaurant items that are definitely not needed and are triple the prices of any other restaurant in town and is a huge waste of time. The tourist stop pushes unwanted liquors on you to purchase, very uncomfortable. Additionally, the stop in Monet is just the church and toboggan ride that costs an additional 30Euro to ride. The Madeira Wine tasting is non-existent and really disappointed us since we could have easily made booking arrangements for the Blandy lodge madeira wine tour or another tour. Since our time in Madeira was limited we were unable to book another wine tasting tour and were left very disappointed. The tour only stopped at a wine shop and should NOT be listed as a highlight of the tour.

We booked the tour in advance to be part of our cruise. On arrival we went to the pick up point at the advised time but the coach did not arrive. I called the operator and within 15 minutes a Mercedes and driver turned up and we had a private tour instead of a coach tour. This was very much appreciated by us and made the day despite the earlier mistake. This would normally be 5 star but for the booking mistake and we had good customer service and a good time.
