Sintra-Cascais Natural Park by E-Bike: 8- hour Tour from Lisbon

Bruno was a fantastic guide. We loved our Sintra and Cascais bike tour. Bruno had great knowledge of all areas and we had time to explore some areas. The bike route is lovely, from the top of Sintra to the bottom of Cascais. The e-bike made the journey really enjoyable as you could pick whichever setting you wanted. I would highly recommend this trip.

Take this tour. It is the best! If you have never ridden a bicycle from the mountains to the sea and you are looking for a different tour experience, take this 8-hour bike ride. Bruno was our seasoned guide for our small group of four. The maximum group size is six. Before you start this adventure, you will meet at the headquarters of the tour company, Lisboa Autentica. There, you will be sized for an e-bike and helmet and Bruno or another guide will quickly explain the easy operation of your e-bike. Then mount up and start riding. The first stop on the tour is Rossio train station, only 5 minutes from the start. Bruno will guide the group around the side of, and up the ramp to, the station, where he will hand you your train card for the day. Keep this card because you’ll need it at the end of the day. You’ll board the train early, guaranteeing your entire group will find a place to sit. Bruno will take care to secure the bikes at the back of the train car. The train route to Sintra is mostly through suburban Lisbon. Not much to see out the windows, so spend the 45-minute ride chatting with your tour mates; you will be with them all day. On our tour we met a wonderful Canadian professor and her son. The end of the line is Sintra. Bruno will cheerfully give instructions about getting your e-bike through the station. Once on the street, your tour guide may give you 15 minutes or so to wander around Sintra. Make your purchases quick and hopefully you have brought a bag to carry whatever you buy because you have 7 hours of e-bike touring left. As you ride through Sintra, Bruno will point out interesting facts about the various historical sites. The tour provides foto-ops but our group did not go inside any of the monuments, castles, or fortresses. Overall the portion of the tour through Sintra is short. If you want to see more of Sintra, you may need to book a different tour. The e-bike tour next meanders through the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. Here you’ll see giant trees and humongous boulders. This part of the ride was the coolest due to the micro-climate surrounding Sintra. If you bring a wind-breaker you’ll also want to bring a back-pack or such to stuff it inside once you get to lower elevations. On the way down the mountains to Cascais, you’ll have time for lunch. If you’re lucky, Bruno will take you to a village restaurant where cyclists are known to frequent. The food here is inexpensive, no more than 12 Euro, and hearty. There are vegetarian options. After lunch, you may get a chance to have an excellent espresso before mounting up and continuing the tour. Time passes quickly and the e-bikes make it easy to cycle to Cascais. You will ride past an amazing beach, home of kite-surfers; and then onwards past many beaches to the Cascais marina. A short stop for ice-cream and then on to the train station for the return ride back to Lisbon. 45 minutes later, you will de-board at a station only 10-minutes to Lisboa Autentica. This is where you will say “farewell” to Bruno and your tour mates. I hope you have taken many pictures of what will surely be one of your best days in Portugal.

What a wonderful trip! Bruno was an excellent guide for our family of 4. He was very knowledgeable about the areas we visited and very attentive to our biking abilities. The scenery was so varied and beautiful-mountainous and green, seaside, and urban all rolled into one day. We had never ridden e-bikes and they were so much fun! You still have to pedal the whole trip (and are tired by the end) but it made getting up steep hills very easy. Highly recommend this tour!!!
