Discovering Cusco's Charms: San Blas, Inka History, and Culinary Delights
Today was a beautiful immersion into the artistic and historical soul of Cusco. With my friends, I set out to explore the city's hidden corners, soak in its rich heritage, and enjoy the local flavors. It's amazing how much character is packed into this city, and I'm excited to share our experiences.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at El Tupay Restaurant. The restaurant exuded elegance with its vaulted ceilings and original paintings, creating a hushed and intimate atmosphere. I opted for a traditional Peruvian breakfast, which was the perfect fuel for our day of exploration. The service was impeccable, and it was a delightful start to the day.

After breakfast, we made our way to the San Blas View Point. The walk itself was charming, with narrow, cobblestone streets that wound uphill. San Blas is known as the artisans' neighborhood, and it was easy to see why. The area was filled with workshops and galleries, showcasing beautiful artwork in gold, silver, pottery, wood, and stone. The mix of Andean and European styles in the architecture gave the neighborhood a magical touch. From the viewpoint, we had a privileged view of the Plaza de Armas and many of Cusco's churches. The panoramic vista of the city's red-tiled rooftops against the backdrop of the Andes was breathtaking.

Next on our itinerary was the Inka Museum. As a translator with a keen interest in history and linguistics, I was particularly excited about this visit. The museum is housed in a colonial-era building, the Casa del Almirante, originally built in the 17th century on Inca foundations. The museum housed an extensive collection of artifacts from the Inca and pre-Inca periods. I was fascinated by the displays of Inca artwork, including wood carvings, bronze mirrors, and ceremonial objects. The museum also showcased the Inca's advanced medical practices, with exhibits of skulls revealing ancient trepanning techniques. Seeing mummified bodies and learning about Inca sacrifices gave me a chilling but profound insight into their beliefs and customs.

For lunch, we headed to Pachapapa in the San Blas neighborhood. The restaurant had a rustic, cozy feel, with a large wood-fired oven and colorful decor. We sat outdoors, enjoying the lively atmosphere and watching as our food was prepared. Pachapapa is known for its traditional Cusquenian dishes, so we tried a variety of local specialties. The flavors were rich and authentic, and it was a perfect tribute to Mother Earth, as the restaurant's name suggests.

As the afternoon waned, we sought out Ukukus Music Club - Bar for a relaxing drink. The bar had a unique, vibrant atmosphere, with walls covered in colorful local art and graffiti. It was a great place to unwind and enjoy some live music, blending traditional Peruvian culture with modern vibes. The music was lively, and it was fun to see both locals and tourists enjoying the scene.

For dinner, we decided on LIMBUS RESTOBAR, which came highly recommended for its stunning views of the city. The restaurant was modern and stylish, with a lively atmosphere. We ordered a variety of Peruvian dishes and experimental cocktails, all while enjoying the breathtaking panoramic views of Cusco at night. The city lights twinkled below, creating a magical ambiance. The staff was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed.
