Springs and Sandstone: A Bungle Bungles Saturday
The Bungle Bungle Range continues to surprise and enchant us. Today was a day of contrasts, from the soothing embrace of thermal springs to the awe-inspiring scale of ancient rock formations. It’s a landscape that humbles you, reminding you of the power and patience of nature. These are the moments I want Lasse to remember, experiences that broaden his understanding of the world beyond Silkeborg.
Our day began, as most do here, with a hearty breakfast at the Bungle Bungle Caravan Park & Tour Company. Simple fare, but it set us up perfectly for the adventures ahead. Astrid, ever the planner, made sure we had plenty of water and snacks packed – trail mix with a Danish twist, of course. I must remember to buy a portable phone charger tomorrow from the shop at Bungle Bungle Caravan Park & Tour Company, as I forgot mine, and it's always useful to have a backup when we are out and about.
First on our itinerary was Galjiba (Molly Spring). The drive there was a bit rough, even in our sturdy vehicle, but the promise of a refreshing swim kept our spirits high. When we arrived, the spring was even more enchanting than the guidebooks suggested.

The water was crystal clear and inviting, surrounded by lush greenery. Lasse, predictably, was the first one in, splashing around with unrestrained glee. Astrid and I followed, and the cool water was bliss after the dusty drive. We spent a good hour simply relaxing in the spring, watching the goannas and birds flitting about. It was a tranquil oasis, a perfect start to the day.
As we relaxed in the cool waters of the spring, I couldn't help but think of our little garden back in Silkeborg. Astrid has created such a peaceful sanctuary there, filled with her favourite Danish flowers and herbs. This spring, though, was nature's own garden, wild and untamed.
Leaving Galjiba, we continued our exploration of the Bungle Bungle Range, heading towards Zebedee Springs. The landscape shifted dramatically, from open plains to towering rock formations. The colours were incredible – deep reds and oranges contrasting with the clear blue sky. It felt like stepping back in time, into a world untouched by modernity.

The walk to Zebedee Springs was a gentle trek through a forest of Livistona palms. The air was thick with humidity, and the sounds of the bush surrounded us. When we finally reached the springs, we were greeted by a series of thermal pools, each one nestled amongst the rocks.
These springs were different from Molly Spring; warmer, more enclosed, almost secretive. The water was wonderfully soothing, easing the aches from our earlier hikes. We soaked in the thermal waters, letting the heat work its magic on our tired muscles.
To truly appreciate the Bungle Bungles, one must embrace the contrasts: the cool springs and the sun-baked rocks, the vast emptiness and the intimate details.
After our rejuvenating soak, it was time for lunch. We drove to the Bungle Bungle Wilderness Lodge and enjoyed a delightful meal. The lodge offered a welcome respite from the harsh landscape, and the food was delicious. Lasse, predictably, devoured his burger, while Astrid and I savoured the fresh salads.

As the sun began to dip towards the horizon, we made our way to the Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge | Eco Accommodation in Purnululu National Park for dinner. The lodge had a welcoming atmosphere, with travellers swapping stories around the bar. We enjoyed a hearty meal, reminiscing about the day's adventures.

After dinner, we decided to enjoy a drink at the Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge bar. It was a perfect way to end the day, sipping on a cold drink and chatting with fellow travellers. Lasse even managed to strike up a conversation with a young couple from Germany, comparing notes on their favourite hiking trails. I enjoyed a glass of wine, while Astrid had a soft drink, ever the responsible one.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, we plan to visit El Questro Wilderness Park and Home Valley Station. More adventures await, and I'm eager to see what other hidden gems this region holds. Astrid is particularly excited about El Questro, having read about its stunning gorges and waterfalls. I am keen to explore Home Valley Station, to learn more about the history of the area.
As I sit here, writing this entry under the vast Australian sky, I am filled with a sense of gratitude. This trip has been more than just a vacation; it's been a chance to reconnect with my family, to immerse ourselves in the beauty of nature, and to create memories that will last a lifetime. And even though I miss my workshop back in Silkeborg, I know that these experiences will enrich my work, giving me a deeper understanding of the materials and the stories they hold.
The Bungle Bungles have a way of getting under your skin, of whispering stories of ancient times and faraway places. It’s a landscape that challenges you, inspires you, and ultimately, changes you. I am grateful for this opportunity to share it with my family.
Goodnight from the Bungle Bungles.
