A Treasure Trove of Moments

Today was a day of pure Jamaican bliss here in Treasure Beach Jamaica. From the gentle rocking of a boat on the Caribbean Sea to the explosion of flavors at a local restaurant, every moment felt like a postcard come to life. It's amazing how quickly this place seeps into your soul, offering a sense of peace and connection that's hard to find elsewhere.

The day started with a hearty breakfast at Gee Wiz.

Priya and Devon were especially excited to try the authentic Jamaican breakfast, while I opted for something a little lighter, knowing the day ahead would involve plenty of culinary adventures. Fuelling up with a good meal was essential before our boat tour with Captain Dennis Boat Tours.

Meeting Captain Dennis was like reuniting with an old friend. His warm smile and easygoing nature immediately set the tone for a relaxing morning. Devon, naturally, was buzzing with excitement, eager to spot dolphins and explore the coastline. As we set off, the turquoise water sparkled under the morning sun, and the gentle breeze carried the scent of salt and sea. The weather was warm, around 90°F (32°C), with a chance of showers later. Thankfully, the sun was out in full force for our morning adventure.

Cruising along the coast with Captain Dennis, we passed secluded coves and rocky cliffs, each more breathtaking than the last. He shared stories of the area, pointing out local landmarks and sharing insights into the history and culture of Treasure Beach. Devon was captivated, peppering Captain Dennis with questions about everything from the local wildlife to the best fishing spots. I even managed to snap a few photos, trying to capture the vibrant colours and stunning scenery, though no picture could truly do it justice.

Treasure Beach isn't just a location; it's a feeling, a state of mind where time slows down and worries fade away.

Our boat tour eventually led us to a particularly beautiful spot where we stopped for a swim. The water was crystal clear and wonderfully refreshing, a welcome respite from the Jamaican sun. Devon, of course, was the first one in, splashing and laughing as he explored the underwater world with his snorkel gear. Priya and I followed suit, enjoying the tranquility of the moment and the sheer joy of being together in such a stunning location. I felt a world away from my office in Toronto. This was exactly the kind of break my family and I needed.

After our swim, we worked up quite an appetite, and Captain Dennis knew just the place to satisfy our cravings: Ki's on di Beach.

This laid-back restaurant offered the perfect blend of delicious food and stunning ocean views. We devoured fresh seafood and local specialties, savoring every bite as we watched the waves roll in. Devon, surprisingly, was quite adventurous with his meal, trying new flavours and declaring everything wicked – his new favourite Jamaican slang.

With our bellies full and our spirits high, we spent the afternoon simply relaxing on Treasure Beach itself. The beach was relatively quiet, allowing us to soak up the sun and enjoy the peace and quiet. Devon built sandcastles, Priya read a book, and I simply closed my eyes and listened to the soothing sound of the waves. It was the kind of simple, unhurried pleasure that I often forget to appreciate in my busy life back home.

As the sun began to dip towards the horizon, we decided to check out Dougie's Bar.

Located at Jakes Hotel, this spot is famous for its laid-back atmosphere and potent rum punch. As someone who appreciates a good drink, I had to try it for myself. The bar overlooks the pool and the Caribbean Sea, creating a picturesque setting as the sun goes down. It wasn't a fancy place, but it felt homey. The walls are decorated with Jamaican memorabilia, including a picture of Bob Marley. It's the kind of place where you can easily strike up a conversation with locals and fellow travellers alike.

The rum punch definitely lived up to its reputation. It was strong, fruity, and incredibly delicious. Priya and I savoured our drinks as we watched Devon play dominoes with some of the local kids. The sound of laughter and reggae music filled the air, creating a vibrant and unforgettable atmosphere. It was a perfect way to end the day, surrounded by good company and the beauty of Treasure Beach.

Dinner tonight was at the Lobster Pot Restaurant.

The name alone had Devon sold, and I have to admit, the promise of fresh lobster was pretty enticing. The restaurant didn't disappoint. We feasted on grilled lobster, seasoned with local spices and served with a side of rice and peas. It was a true culinary masterpiece, a testament to the incredible flavors of Jamaican cuisine. Even Priya, who usually prefers vegetarian options, couldn't resist trying a bite, and she was instantly hooked.

Reflecting on the day, I'm struck by the simple beauty and authenticity of Treasure Beach. It's not a place of fancy resorts or tourist traps. Instead, it's a place where you can connect with nature, immerse yourself in local culture, and experience the true spirit of Jamaica. I'm so grateful to have shared this experience with my family, creating memories that we will cherish for years to come.

Tomorrow, we're planning a trip to YS Falls and the Appleton Estate Rum Tour. Devon is excited to swim in the waterfalls, and I'm definitely looking forward to sampling some of Jamaica's finest rum. I have a feeling that tomorrow will be another day filled with adventure and unforgettable moments. I’m also secretly hoping that the Appleton Estate tour will give me some insight into how to make a rum punch as good as the one I had at Dougie’s Bar!

As I sit here writing this, with the gentle sound of crickets chirping outside my window, I feel a sense of contentment and gratitude. Treasure Beach has a way of slowing down time, allowing you to appreciate the simple things in life: family, nature, and good food. It's a treasure that I'm so glad to have discovered, and I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

I’m also realizing that I forgot to pack insect repellent. Hopefully, the local shops will have some tomorrow. It’s a small price to pay for paradise, though!

I'm curious to see if YS Falls will be as impressive as everyone says it is. I’ve seen photos, but I know that experiencing it in person will be something else entirely.
