Today, our family delved deeper into the heart of Arezzo, exploring its ancient gates, majestic fortresses, and the intricate beauty of its palazzi. With Jana and Maximilian by my side, I set out to capture the essence of this Tuscan gem, blending historical exploration with the simple joys of local cuisine and ambiance.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at HOTEL RESIDENCE LE CORNIOLE, fueling up for a day of exploration. The Tuscan sun was already warming the terracotta rooftops as we made our way towards our first destination: Porta San Lorentino.

As we approached Porta San Lorentino, I couldn't help but feel a sense of stepping back in time. This gate, part of the Medicean walls built in the 16th century, stands as a sentinel, guarding the city's rich history. Maximilian was particularly fascinated by the stories of battles and sieges that this gate had witnessed. The stones themselves seemed to whisper tales of centuries past.

Porta San Lorentino, also known as Porta Fiorentina, is one of the four original gates integrated into the city walls by the Medici family. The building has served various purposes over the centuries. Today it stands as a museum and cultural center.

By late afternoon, our stomachs were starting to rumble, so we set out to explore Arezzo's culinary scene. For a quick and tasty lunch, we stopped by La Tua Piadina. This local spot is known for its delicious piadinas, a type of flatbread sandwich filled with various ingredients. Maximilian opted for a simple prosciutto cotto piadina, while Jana and I tried the stracchino and rucola, a delightful combination of creamy cheese and peppery greens.

For our main courses, I chose the bistecca alla fiorentina, a thick-cut steak grilled to perfection, while Jana enjoyed the pici al ragù, a hearty pasta dish with a rich meat sauce. Maximilian, always a fan of simple flavors, opted for the gnocchi with butter and sage. The meal was a perfect representation of Tuscan cuisine, simple, flavorful, and satisfying.

Evening Ambiance: Urban Green

As the evening approached, we sought a place to unwind and soak in the local atmosphere. We discovered Urban Green, a bar known for its relaxed vibe and excellent cocktails. Located near the Duomo, this spot offered a perfect setting to reflect on our day. The bar was lively, filled with locals and tourists alike, all enjoying the warm summer evening. The atmosphere was vibrant, with music playing softly in the background, creating a perfect backdrop for conversation.

I ordered an Aperol spritz, while Jana chose a glass of local wine. Maximilian, with his endless energy, enjoyed a fruit smoothie. Urban Green proved to be an excellent choice for a relaxed evening, allowing us to savor the last moments of our day in Arezzo.

As we walked back to HOTEL RESIDENCE LE CORNIOLE, I felt a sense of contentment. Today had been a perfect blend of historical exploration, culinary indulgence, and family bonding. Arezzo had once again revealed its charm, offering us a glimpse into its rich past and vibrant present.

Tomorrow, we plan to explore the Antiquariato mercato and the Fontana di Sant'Agnese, promising another day filled with discovery and delight. I am particularly looking forward to the market, hoping to find some unique souvenirs to bring back home to Brno. Good night from Arezzo!
