Day 10: Sun, Sea, and Sharks: A Barcelona Beach Day and Underwater Wonders
Discover Barcelona's vibrant beach life at Barceloneta, explore marine wonders at the Aquarium, and enjoy Olympic Port's lively atmosphere.
A Day of Coastal Delights and Aquatic Adventures
Today marked the penultimate day of our Barcelona adventure, and we decided to soak up the sun and sea. It was a day filled with sandy toes, fascinating marine life, and the vibrant atmosphere of Barcelona's coastline. Maximilian was especially excited, and Jana and I were eager to create some lasting memories before heading back to Brno.
Our day began with a leisurely breakfast at All you eat is love. The name itself is so lovely, and it was the perfect way to start our day. After that we headed towards Barceloneta Beach. The energy was palpable as soon as we arrived. The beach was bustling with locals and tourists alike, all eager to enjoy the beautiful Mediterranean weather. We found a nice spot, spread out our towels, and Maximilian immediately ran towards the water, his laughter echoing in the air. I joined him, while Jana relaxed under the umbrella, soaking in the sun and enjoying the lively atmosphere. The water was refreshing, albeit a bit chilly, but that didn't deter Maximilian from splashing around and building sandcastles. I even managed to convince Jana to join us for a quick dip, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

After a couple of hours of beach fun, we decided to explore the nearby Aquàrium Barcelona. Maximilian was thrilled at the prospect of seeing sharks and other marine creatures up close. The aquarium is located in Port Vell, and it's home to an impressive collection of Mediterranean and tropical marine life. As we entered, we were immediately greeted by the mesmerizing sight of colorful fish, graceful jellyfish, and fascinating sea creatures of all shapes and sizes. Maximilian was particularly captivated by the penguins, which waddled around their enclosure, entertaining everyone with their playful antics.

The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.
The highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the Oceanarium, a massive tank with a transparent tunnel running through it. Walking through the tunnel, surrounded by sharks, rays, and other large marine species, was an awe-inspiring experience. Maximilian was wide-eyed with wonder as sharks swam overhead, their shadows gliding across the glass. Jana, who isn't usually a fan of enclosed spaces, found herself equally mesmerized by the spectacle. It was a truly immersive experience that gave us a glimpse into the hidden depths of the ocean. We spent a good couple of hours exploring the various exhibits, learning about the different marine ecosystems and the importance of conservation efforts. Maximilian was full of questions, and I did my best to answer them, sharing my own fascination with the underwater world.
By lunchtime, we were all feeling quite hungry, so we headed to Restaurant Port Vell for a delightful meal. The restaurant offered stunning views of the harbor and a menu filled with delicious seafood dishes. We ordered a selection of tapas to share, including patatas bravas, gambas al ajillo, and calamares fritos. Maximilian, surprisingly, enjoyed the patatas bravas the most, while Jana and I savored the fresh seafood. The atmosphere was relaxed and convivial, and we enjoyed watching the boats sail in and out of the harbor as we ate.

After lunch, we took a leisurely stroll around Port Olímpic, the marina built for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. The area was bustling with activity, with people strolling along the waterfront, enjoying the sunshine, and admiring the yachts and sailboats docked in the harbor. Maximilian was fascinated by the boats, and we spent some time pointing out the different types and sizes. We also stopped at a few souvenir shops, where Maximilian picked out a small toy sailboat to remember our Barcelona adventure. The Port Olímpic has transformed into a gastronomic hub, offering a wide array of culinary choices.

As the sun began to set, we decided to treat ourselves to a drink at the Caribbean Club, a bar known for its classic cocktails and nautical-themed decor. The bar was cozy and intimate, with dark wood paneling, vintage maps, and a collection of rum bottles that would make any connoisseur swoon. I ordered a classic mojito, while Jana opted for a refreshing daiquiri. Maximilian, of course, had a non-alcoholic fruit punch. The atmosphere was relaxed and convivial, and we enjoyed chatting with the friendly bartenders and soaking in the ambiance.

Travel is not about the destination, but the moments that create lasting memories.
Dinner was at Restaurant Lounge My Way, which was a great end to the day. As we walked back to the ME Barcelona, we reflected on the day's adventures. It had been a perfect blend of relaxation, exploration, and family fun. Barceloneta Beach had provided us with the opportunity to soak up the sun and sea, Aquàrium Barcelona had opened our eyes to the wonders of the underwater world, and Port Olímpic had offered a glimpse into the city's vibrant maritime culture. Maximilian was already fast asleep in my arms, his face flushed with sun and contentment. Jana and I exchanged a knowing glance, grateful for the memories we were creating together.

Tomorrow marks the final day of our Barcelona adventure. We plan to visit Parc del Laberint d'Horta and Tibidabo, hoping to end our trip on a high note. It's bittersweet to think that our time here is coming to an end, but we're also excited to return to Brno and share our experiences with friends and family. Barcelona has captured our hearts, and we know that we'll be back someday to explore more of its hidden gems. I really should have remembered to bring the umbrella and portable phone charger, but I'll be sure to remember those on our next trip.
Back at the hotel, I started jotting down notes for this blog post, eager to share our experiences with you all. As I write, I can still feel the warmth of the sun on my skin, hear the sound of the waves crashing on the shore, and see the wonder in Maximilian's eyes as he gazed at the sharks in the Oceanarium. These are the moments that make travel so rewarding, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to share them with you.
Until tomorrow, auf wiedersehen from Barcelona!
