Today was a day of delving deep into the heart of Florence, exploring its rich tapestry of science, history, and cultural heritage. With James and Eglė in tow, I set out to uncover more of what makes this city so captivating. It's amazing how much history is packed into every corner, and I was eager to experience it all.


Our morning began with a delightful breakfast at Caffè Gilli, a Florentine institution that has been serving patrons since 1733. The café, located in Piazza della Repubblica, exudes an old-world charm that instantly transports you to another era. Sipping on a cappuccino while enjoying a freshly baked pastry, I couldn't help but feel a sense of connection to the countless artists, writers, and intellectuals who have frequented this historic establishment over the centuries. Eglė was particularly fascinated by the café's history, and James enjoyed the people-watching as the city slowly came to life around us.

After breakfast, we made our way to the Museo Galileo, a museum dedicated to the history of science. As someone who appreciates the wonders of the natural world, I was excited to explore the museum's collection of scientific instruments and learn about the groundbreaking discoveries that have shaped our understanding of the universe. The museum is located right next to the Uffizi Gallery.

To think that Galileo Galilei himself used these instruments to make his groundbreaking observations of the cosmos was truly awe-inspiring. I could almost feel his presence as I gazed through the lenses, imagining the excitement he must have felt as he discovered the moons of Jupiter and challenged the prevailing scientific theories of his time.

Eglė was particularly intrigued by the interactive exhibits, which allowed her to test theories of motion and speed through reproductions of Da Vinci's clever inventions. James, ever the engineer, was fascinated by the intricate mechanisms of the antique instruments.

For dinner, we chose Logò Ristorante, known for its cozy atmosphere and beautiful interior. We started with prosecco, and I enjoyed sampling the local dishes. James had coffee while Eglė tried a dessert. The staff was patient and friendly, making our meal even more enjoyable.

Today was a reminder of how much history and culture is interwoven into the fabric of Florence. Tomorrow, we plan to visit the Museo di Palazzo Davanzati, the Florence National Central Library, and Piazza della Santissima Annunziata. I'm also hoping we can find time for a drink at Rasputin, a bar that has caught my eye.

As I reflect on our day of discovery, I am filled with a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to experience the beauty and history of Florence. This city has a way of captivating the soul, and I am eager to continue exploring its hidden gems and unraveling its secrets. I am also grateful for having my family with me. Sharing these experiences with them makes it all the more special.
