After a restful night at the Royal Elmount Hotel, I was eager to delve deeper into Elmina's story. Today was a blend of historical reflection, beachside relaxation, and savoring the local culinary scene. It was a day that truly captured the essence of this coastal town, and I couldn't wait to share it all with you.

The day began with a hearty breakfast at Lemon Beach Restaurant. The fresh sea breeze and the aroma of local spices set the perfect tone for the adventures that lay ahead. After fueling up, our first stop was the Elmina Java Museum.

The Elmina Java Museum turned out to be a small but mighty place, offering a fascinating look into a lesser-known piece of history. It tells the story of the Belanda Hitam, African soldiers who served in the Dutch East Indies Army. It was incredible to learn about this unique connection between Ghana and Indonesia, a testament to the complex and interconnected nature of global history. Olivia, who is a teacher, was particularly fascinated and made copious notes.

After the museum, we decided to unwind at Coconut Grove Beach Resort. The resort is quite expansive, with a golf course, tennis courts, and a lovely pool area. Though I didn't partake in any sports, I did enjoy a refreshing coconut drink by the poolside bar. The beach was clean, and it was lovely to see locals enjoying the coast as well. I took a long walk along the shore, feeling the sand between my toes and soaking in the stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. It was the perfect way to decompress after a morning of historical exploration. The resort had a lively atmosphere, and I could see why it's a popular spot for both locals and tourists.

For lunch, we ventured out to African Pot, a local restaurant known for its authentic Ghanaian cuisine. I had heard rave reviews about their fufu, so I knew I had to try it. I wasn't disappointed. The fufu was soft and pillowy, and the accompanying soup was rich and flavorful. It was a truly immersive culinary experience, and I savored every bite. Olivia opted for the tilapia soup and was equally impressed. The restaurant had a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, and the staff were incredibly friendly, making us feel right at home.

As the sun began to dip towards the horizon, we made our way to Seatop Bar for a taste of Elmina's nightlife. The bar had a lively vibe, with music and laughter filling the air. I ordered a local beer and savored the moment, reflecting on the day's adventures. It was a perfect way to unwind and soak in the local atmosphere.

Dinner was at One Africa Health Resort, which offered a tranquil setting for our evening meal. The resort had a serene ambiance, and the food was delicious and nourishing. I opted for a traditional Ghanaian dish, while Olivia chose a vegetarian option. We both enjoyed our meals, and the peaceful setting made for a perfect end to the day.

I also had a chat with a local at One Africa Health Resort, and he mentioned that Elmina Lakeside Mall was celebrating its first anniversary with arts, culture, and community events until September 1st. It sounded like a vibrant place, but unfortunately, we would be missing the main events. He also mentioned that the Swiss Dream Circus had shows there earlier in August.

Today was a beautiful blend of learning, relaxation, and cultural immersion. I am also learning to embrace the little things, like when I forgot my insect repellent and sunglasses back in Toronto. It's those little mishaps that make for great stories later on.

Tomorrow, we are planning an Elmina Boat Cruise and a visit to Brand Elmina. I'm eager to see what new adventures await!
