It wasn't just a visit to historical sites; it was a journey back in time, a communion with the spirits of those who sought wisdom from the Oracle. The air was thick with history, and every stone seemed to whisper tales of gods and mortals. It's days like these that remind me why I love exploring the world, piecing together the past, and sharing these experiences.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at the Amalia Hotel Delphi Restaurant. Fuelled up, we set off to explore the wonders that awaited us. I must admit, I was particularly excited about today, having read so much about Delphi and its significance in ancient Greece. Aoife, ever the librarian, was armed with even more knowledge than I, ready to share fascinating details about every nook and cranny we encountered.

First on our itinerary was the magnificent Temple of Apollo. As we approached, the sheer scale of the ruins was breathtaking. It's hard to imagine the temple in its full glory, but even in its current state, it exudes an aura of power and mystique. Constructed around 330 B.C., after previous iterations were destroyed by fire and earthquakes, this Doric temple was where the Pythia, the high priestess, delivered her cryptic prophecies. I tried to imagine the ancient Greeks making their way up the Sacred Way, seeking guidance on matters of state, war, and personal affairs. As we approached, the elegant silhouette of the Tholos against the backdrop of Mount Parnassus was simply stunning. Aoife pointed out the intricate details of the remaining columns and the subtle curvature of the structure, explaining how it blended different architectural styles in a harmonious way. Lunch was at In Delphi Restaurant, a charming spot with a lovely view. We enjoyed traditional Greek fare, savoring the flavors of fresh ingredients and local recipes. The moussaka was particularly delicious, and Aoife raved about the stuffed tomatoes. It was the perfect way to recharge before continuing our exploration.

This place had a cozy atmosphere, and I decided to try one of their signature cocktails. Aoife, ever the traditionalist, opted for a glass of local wine. I had heard about Mr. Rose Cocktail Bar, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. The bartenders were skilled and friendly, and the cocktails were both inventive and delicious. The music was great, and the overall vibe was relaxed and welcoming. It was the perfect spot to unwind and reflect on the day's adventures.

For dinner, we chose OMFALOS, a restaurant known for its authentic Greek cuisine and warm hospitality. The food was exceptional, and the service was attentive. I opted for the lamb chops, while Aoife enjoyed a vegetarian dish made with local vegetables. As we dined, we recounted our favorite moments from the day, marveling at the rich history and stunning beauty of Delphi. The evening was filled with laughter, good food, and a shared sense of wonder.

According to the forecast, July in Delphi typically sees daytime temperatures around 28°C (83°F), making it ideal for outdoor activities. However, it’s always wise to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen, especially during the hottest parts of the day. I’m glad I remembered to pack sunscreen, though I did forget my sunglasses, a rookie mistake for an antiques dealer who spends so much time outdoors!

There didn't seem to be any specific local events taking place in Delphi today, but the town itself was bustling with tourists and locals alike, all drawn to the allure of this ancient site. It's amazing how a place steeped in history can still feel so alive and vibrant.

As I reflect on our day, I am reminded of the importance of travel and exploration. It broadens our horizons, deepens our understanding of the world, and connects us to the past.
