Today was about touching the sky, or at least getting as close as possible. Serra da Estrela, with its promise of panoramic views and crisp mountain air, delivered an experience that resonated deeply with my soul. It was a day of exploration, reflection, and appreciation for the raw beauty of nature.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at Primor Serra. I fueled up with some local pastries and strong coffee, knowing I'd need the energy for the adventures ahead. The plan was to visit Torre, the highest point in mainland Portugal, and then explore the Miradouro do Covão. I also planned to try out some local cuisine throughout the day, and maybe even check out a bar in the evening.

The drive to Torre was an experience in itself. The winding roads climbed steadily, offering glimpses of the landscape that lay ahead. The air grew crisper, and the vegetation changed as I ascended. I could feel the shift in altitude with every turn, a tangible reminder of the heights I was about to reach. The weather in Serra da Estrela in November can be moderately chilly, with average highs around 14°C and lows around 5°C. I made sure to wear layers.

Finally, I arrived at Torre. The landscape was stark and beautiful, a mix of rocky terrain and windswept plains. The flavors were rich and comforting, a true taste of the Serra da Estrela. I paired it with a glass of local red wine, and savored every bite. It reminded me of the hearty stews my grandmother used to make back in Spanish Town, British Virgin Islands.

With my appetite satisfied, I set off for Miradouro do Covão. This viewpoint offered a different perspective on the Serra da Estrela, showcasing the rugged beauty of the Covão do Viriato. The viewpoint was easily accessible by car, followed by a short walk along a well-maintained path. The views were stunning, a tapestry of granite peaks, verdant valleys, and shimmering lakes. I spent some time here simply enjoying the tranquility, listening to the wind rustling through the trees, and feeling grateful for the opportunity to experience such natural beauty.

The Centro Comercial da Torre might also be worth a visit for some local souvenirs.

Dinner tonight was at Império, another local restaurant recommended for its authentic Portuguese cuisine. I opted for a seafood dish, wanting to sample something different from the mountain fare I had enjoyed for lunch. The fish was fresh and flavorful, perfectly grilled and served with a simple salad. It was a light and refreshing meal, a pleasant contrast to the heavier dishes I had been indulging in. I enjoyed chatting with the friendly staff, learning more about the local culture and traditions.

The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, with soft lighting and comfortable seating. I ordered a drink and enjoyed the laid-back vibe, reflecting on the day's adventures. It was an unexpected end to a perfect day, a reminder that even in the most remote locations, there are always new experiences to be discovered. I thought about Olivia and how she would have enjoyed the mountain views. We will definitely have to come back here together.
