Adios, Granada!

As my ten-day adventure in Granada draws to a close, a bittersweet feeling washes over me. This city, with its layers of history etched into every stone and corner, has truly captured my heart. Today, on this final day of our trip, Hans-Peter and I, along with our friends, set out to absorb the last drops of Granada's magic before our journey back to Berlin. While I look forward to returning home, I know a part of me will forever remain wandering the enchanting streets of this Andalusian gem.

Our day began with a leisurely breakfast at La Tabernilla del Darro, a charming spot nestled along the Carrera del Darro. The morning air was crisp, carrying the scent of blossoming orange trees, a familiar fragrance that has accompanied us throughout our stay. The restaurant itself was inside a cave, which was very cool and unique. We sat outside on the terrace, which had wine barrels instead of tables. It was a nice touch! Over coffee and tostadas con tomate, we reminisced about our favorite moments from the past week – the awe-inspiring Alhambra, the vibrant Albaicín, and the soulful flamenco performances.

Fueled by caffeine and nostalgia, we decided to spend the morning exploring the Parque Central de Granada. Though I am used to the parks in Berlin, I was curious to see what this park had to offer. It was a delightful contrast to the bustling city streets, a peaceful oasis where locals gathered to chat, children played, and pigeons strutted about with an air of importance. Hans-Peter, ever the keen observer, sketched some of the park's features in his notebook, capturing the essence of Granada's everyday life. I found myself drawn to the vibrant colors of the flowers, a welcome reminder of the beauty that thrives even in the heart of a city. We sat for a while, simply watching the world go by, savoring the tranquility before the inevitable return to the hustle and bustle of Berlin.

For lunch, we ventured to Restaurante Carmen Verde Luna, drawn by its promise of fusion cuisine and stunning views of the Alhambra. Getting there was an adventure in itself, as the restaurant was in a location that was hard to get to. The climb was worth it, though! The restaurant was very charming, and the views of the Alhambra were spectacular. The food was also delicious. I opted for a salad with a mix of fresh, local ingredients, while Hans-Peter chose a meat dish, savoring the flavors of Andalusian cuisine one last time. Our friends enjoyed the fusion dishes, which were a mix of many types of cuisines. The restaurant had a romantic atmosphere, and we were glad we chose it for our last lunch in Granada. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the service was excellent. As we ate, we talked about all the things we had seen and done in Granada, and how much we had enjoyed our time there.

In the afternoon, seeking a dose of culture, we visited the Teatro Nacional Rubén Darío. Though named after a Nicaraguan poet, I was still curious as to what the theater had to offer. While I am used to the Deutsches Historisches Museum, it is good to see other historical landmarks. The theater's architecture was impressive, a blend of modern design and traditional Spanish elements. Inside, we learned about the theater's history and its role in Granada's cultural scene. I imagined the countless performances that had graced its stage, the actors, musicians, and dancers who had brought stories to life within its walls. It was a fitting way to end our exploration of Granada, a city that celebrates art and creativity in all its forms.

As evening approached, we decided to indulge in one last taste of Granada's culinary scene. For dinner, we chose Restaurante Mirador Carmen de San Miguel, enticed by its reputation for traditional cuisine and panoramic views. The restaurant did not disappoint. The views were incredible, and the food was delicious. I savored every bite of my meal, knowing that it would be a while before I tasted such authentic flavors again. Hans-Peter, as always, appreciated the ambiance of the restaurant, noting the subtle details that created a warm and inviting atmosphere. The service was also excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive, and they made us feel very welcome. We sat for a long time, enjoying the food, the wine, and the company of our friends.

To cap off our final night, we ventured to The Real McCoy Cocktail Bar, a hidden gem recommended by a local friend. I was surprised to see that it was owned by a woman named Vikki, who brought an international vibe to the bar. Though I usually prefer wine, I was curious to try one of her cocktails. The bar's cozy atmosphere and eclectic decor immediately put us at ease. Vikki, the owner and bartender, greeted us with a warm smile and expertly crafted cocktails tailored to our preferences. I opted for a classic gin and tonic, while Hans-Peter, ever adventurous, tried a local specialty. As we sipped our drinks, we chatted with Vikki about her experiences in Granada and her passion for mixology. It was the perfect ending to our Granada adventure, a reminder that the best travel experiences often come from unexpected encounters and local connections.
