A Day of Discovery

Today, the fourth day of my solo journey to Kuressaare, was a delightful blend of natural exploration and culinary indulgence. It was a day that reminded me why I cherish these solo trips – the freedom to wander, observe, and savor every moment without distraction.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at Saaremaa Veski. Remembering Hans-Peter's fondness for traditional windmills, I couldn't help but think of him as I stepped into this architectural monument. The cafe opened in 1974 and is one of the most popular places in the city. I opted for a simple yet satisfying meal of local bread with smoked fish, a true taste of Saaremaa. The hearty flavors fueled me for the day's adventures. I was also tempted by their summer salad with seasonal vegetables, roasted seeds, and raspberry vinegar dressing.

With a full stomach and a sense of anticipation, I set off to the Kuressaare birdwatching tower. The tower is located near Kuressaare and offers safe vantage points for observing nesting birds. As I ascended the wooden structure, the panoramic view of the surrounding landscape unfolded before me. The air was crisp and clean, carrying the scent of pine and the distant sound of waves. Although I am not an avid birdwatcher, I appreciated the tranquility and the opportunity to observe the local wildlife in their natural habitat. I could see various species flitting among the trees, their calls creating a symphony of nature.

After spending a peaceful hour at the birdwatching tower, I made my way to the Dendropark. This urban oasis is a testament to the beauty and diversity of plant life. As I strolled along the winding paths, I was captivated by the vibrant colors and textures of the trees, shrubs, and flowers. The Dendropark is especially interesting for its variety of dendro-flora. I imagined Hans-Peter, with his expertise in antique furniture restoration, would have appreciated the intricate details of the park's wooden benches and bridges.

By lunchtime, my appetite had returned, and I decided to try Restaurant Good Mood Food. The restaurant had limited vegan options. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff made me feel instantly welcome. I chose their vegan bowl, with beetroot latte and turmeric latte. The meal was both nourishing and delicious, a perfect blend of flavors and textures.

In the late afternoon, I strolled through the town, soaking in the laid-back atmosphere of Kuressaare. I passed by the Wine Terrace and decided to treat myself to a glass of local wine. Sipping the crisp, refreshing beverage, I watched as the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a warm golden glow over the town. It was a moment of pure bliss, a perfect ending to a day of exploration and discovery.

For dinner, I ventured to Castello Restoran Pizzeria. The warm atmosphere made me feel relaxed. I opted for their vegan pizza, with vegan cheese. The crust was very light and not very flavorful. It was a satisfying meal, but I couldn't help but think of Hans-Peter's homemade pizzas back in Berlin. He always adds a special touch, a secret ingredient that elevates his creations to another level. The staff was cool and the service was fine. The restaurant also has a garden seating area in the back.

As the day drew to a close, I reflected on my experiences. Kuressaare had once again revealed its charm and beauty, offering a unique blend of natural wonders and culinary delights. I felt grateful for the opportunity to explore this hidden gem of the Baltic Sea, a place that resonated with my soul and awakened my senses.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, I plan to explore the Musumänniku terviserajad and the Roomassaare viewing platform. I am eager to discover more of Saaremaa's natural beauty, to wander through its forests and admire its coastal landscapes. I'll also be having breakfast at Johan Spa Hotel, lunch at WAAG restobar, and dinner at Chameleon Lounge.
