A Day of Discoveries in Pelion

Today was all about embracing the natural beauty and culinary delights of Pelion. It’s amazing how much you can discover when you simply allow yourself to wander and be open to new experiences. From a refreshing spring to a vibrant cocktail bar, every moment was a testament to the charm of this region.

Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Meintani (Niki's Taverna) in Zagora. The cozy atmosphere and the promise of traditional flavors drew us in. Niki's Taverna focuses on quality and the use of free-range products. This place had a magnificent view. As we sat there, enjoying our meal, I couldn't help but feel grateful for these simple moments with my family, a perfect start to a day of exploration.

With our bellies full and spirits high, we set off to explore the Spring of Manas, a hidden gem near Portaria. The drive itself was breathtaking, with winding roads offering panoramic views of the landscape. As we arrived, the fresh scent of pine trees and the gentle sound of flowing water welcomed us. The spring is easily accessible and provides a tranquil environment for relaxation and exploration. The area around the Spring of Manas is characterized by vibrant wildflowers and towering trees, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. Nadia was particularly excited, her eyes wide with wonder as she chased butterflies and collected colorful leaves. The crystal-clear water gently flows over rocks and pebbles, adding to the soothing melody of the natural landscape. I took a leisurely stroll through the nearby forests, enjoying the fresh air and immersing myself in the beauty of the Pelion mountains. Lukas, ever the history enthusiast, read aloud from our guidebook, sharing stories of how springs like Manas were vital sources of fresh water for local communities. It was a lovely reminder of the importance of natural resources and the simple pleasures of life.

Sometimes, the most memorable moments are found in the quiet corners of the world, where nature whispers its secrets and local flavors dance on your palate.

For lunch, we ventured to Tavern Pelion Geuseis Portaria, a place recommended for its traditional dishes and relaxing atmosphere. The restaurant is not central, so it is rather quiet, letting you enjoy a relaxing atmosphere. The wood oven-cooked meat bursts with flavor, while fresh ingredients are used to create all their dishes. We were welcomed with two shots of tsipouro and some freshly grilled bread with oil, followed by a side dish of pickled eggplants (aubergines). The traditional Greek tavern. I had a great time with my family, they gave us the best table with the view Volos and the gulf. The service was perfect the people very polite and take care of us to have a perfect dinner. The food was delicious pure Greek cuisine everything was homemade, the plates and the quantity were huge more than double. The portions were generous, and every dish was bursting with authentic Greek flavors. Nadia surprised us all by devouring a plate of lamb cutlets, declaring it the best meal she’d had so far. The staff were incredibly friendly and hospitable, making us feel like part of their family. As we ate, we enjoyed the stunning views from the shaded terrace, a perfect backdrop to our culinary adventure.

In the late afternoon, we decided to explore some of the Pelion Activities. Pelion is also a haven for outdoor enthusiasts offering a variety of sea sports as well as horse riding, mountain biking and scenic walking trails passing through beautiful villages and sights of cultural interest. We opted for a leisurely hike along one of the scenic trails, winding through lush forests and ancient routes. The air was crisp and clean, and the silence was broken only by the rustling of leaves and the occasional birdsong. It was a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to SPECIAL DELIGHT restaurant & cocktail bar for dinner. The owner is such an authentic person, loves what she's doing and serves people from the heart I recommend you to talk to her and hear about her life story. The restaurant serves French, Greek, Italian, Mediterranean, seafood, European, and barbecue grill cuisines. The atmosphere was vibrant and inviting, with a touch of elegance. We started with some cocktails, each one a work of art, and then indulged in a delicious meal of fresh seafood. The service was impeccable, and the staff went out of their way to ensure we had a memorable evening. As we savored our meal, we watched the sky transform into a canvas of fiery colors, a perfect ending to a perfect day.

Before heading back to our guesthouse, we stopped by Grappa Vino & Aperitivo for a nightcap. Grappa Vino & Aperitivo A cozy, atmospheric and extremely popular bar in the center of Volos, it gains the impression both with its constantly updated wine list and its unique cocktails. The best wine bar in the town, with cozy atmosphere, which hosts wine tasting every monday night and many wine festivals with local and international wines. This cozy bar offered an impressive selection of local wines and expertly crafted cocktails. I opted for a glass of red wine, while Lukas tried one of their signature cocktails. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and we found ourselves chatting with some of the locals, sharing stories and laughter. The bar is known for its creative blends and relaxed mood, making it a perfect spot to unwind after a day of adventures.

As I reflect on today's experiences, I am filled with a sense of gratitude and contentment. Pelion has a way of captivating your heart and soul, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and warm hospitality. It’s a place where you can truly slow down, connect with nature, and create lasting memories with your loved ones. Tomorrow, we plan to explore the Home of Alexandros Papadiamantis and the Sycamore of peace square. I am excited to see what new adventures await us as we continue our journey through this enchanting region.
