Chasing Waterfalls and Finding Serenity

Today was a day of seeking out refreshing escapes in the arid landscape of the Bungle Bungle Range. Maximilian and I set out to explore Galjiba (Molly Spring), also known as Molly Spring, and Dalmanyi (Bell Gorge), two locations that promised respite from the heat and stunning natural beauty. As a software developer from Bonn, Germany, trading my keyboard for hiking boots is always a welcome change, and these hidden gems were just what I needed to recharge.

We started our day with breakfast at the Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge. After a hearty meal, we packed our essentials – water, sunscreen, and of course, my camera – and headed towards Galjiba (Molly Spring). The drive itself was an adventure, with the landscape transforming from the iconic beehive domes to a more rugged, rocky terrain. Galjiba, a Hidden Oasis
The drive to Galjiba was relatively easy, especially compared to some of the 4WD tracks we've encountered. It's located a short distance from the main road, making it quite accessible. As we approached, the air felt noticeably cooler, a welcome change from the dry heat. Galjiba, also known as Molly Spring, is a small, spring-fed pool and waterfall. The area is incredibly peaceful, with the only sounds being the gentle rush of water and the chirping of birds. The pool itself is small, more of a plunge pool than a swimming area, but it was perfect for a refreshing dip. I couldn't resist taking a dip in the crystal-clear water. The water was surprisingly cold, a stark contrast to the warm air, and it felt incredibly invigorating. Maximilian, ever the observer, took the opportunity to capture the scenery with his camera. He loves finding the perfect angle, the right light, and the ideal composition. Photography is his way of connecting with a place, of freezing a moment in time. We spent a couple of hours at Galjiba, exploring the small waterfall and the surrounding rocks. I even managed to climb to the top of the falls, where there were several smaller pools. The view from the top was lovely, overlooking a valley of green and gold.
“Sometimes, the most beautiful places are the ones that require a little effort to discover.”

Lunch at Bungle Bungle Wilderness Lodge
After our refreshing interlude at Galjiba, we drove to the Bungle Bungle Wilderness Lodge for lunch. The lodge is nestled in the heart of Purnululu National Park, offering convenient access to many of the park's attractions. The setting was beautiful, and the food was delicious, providing us with much needed energy for the afternoon's adventure. Dalmanyi (Bell Gorge): A Kimberley Masterpiece
With our bellies full and our spirits high, we set off for Dalmanyi, or Bell Gorge. This was a longer drive, and we needed to backtrack towards the Gibb River Road. The road to Bell Gorge is a bit rough, requiring a 4WD, but the stunning scenery made it worthwhile. As we drove, I couldn't help but reflect on how different this landscape is from my home in Germany. The vastness, the ruggedness, the sheer scale of everything is awe-inspiring. It's a reminder of how much there is to see and explore in this world. After parking the car, we embarked on a short hike to reach the gorge. The trail was rocky and uneven in places, so sturdy hiking shoes were essential. As we rounded a bend, the gorge came into view, and it was breathtaking. Dalmanyi (Bell Gorge) is a dramatic gorge with cascading waterfalls and a large pool at the base. The cliffs are towering, and the water is crystal clear. It's a place of immense beauty and tranquility. We spent the afternoon swimming in the pool and exploring the gorge. The water was cool and refreshing, perfect for escaping the heat. We even hiked to the top of the waterfall, where we were rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Maximilian, of course, was in his element, capturing the scene from every possible angle. As the sun began to set, we reluctantly packed up and began the drive back. The sky was ablaze with color, painting the landscape in hues of orange, pink, and purple. It was a perfect end to a perfect day.

Dinner at Bungle Bungle Caravan Park & Tour Company For dinner, we decided to try the Bungle Bungle Caravan Park & Tour Company. It offered a casual and relaxed atmosphere, perfect for winding down after a long day of exploring. We enjoyed a hearty meal and shared stories with other travelers. Reflections on the Day Today was a reminder of the importance of seeking out moments of peace and tranquility in our busy lives. Both Galjiba and Dalmanyi offered a chance to connect with nature and escape the pressures of the modern world. As a software developer, I spend much of my time in front of a computer screen, so these experiences are essential for my well-being. Tomorrow, we plan to visit Bandilngan (Windjana Gorge) National Park and Dimalurru (Tunnel Creek) National Park. I'm excited to see what other hidden gems the Kimberley has in store for us. I've heard Windjana Gorge is home to many freshwater crocodiles, so I'll be sure to keep my eyes peeled!

The Bungle Bungle Range continues to surprise and delight, and I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. For now, it's time to rest and recharge for another day of adventure.
