Discovering the natural beauty of Waterfall Bridal Veil and Cachoeira do Lajeado, plus savoring Uruguayan cuisine in Alto Paraíso de Goiás.
Day 14: Waterfalls and Culinary Delights
Today was all about immersing ourselves in the raw beauty of Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, punctuated by moments of delicious indulgence. It's amazing how a day filled with nature's wonders and culinary exploration can leave you feeling both invigorated and deeply content. From the cascading waters to the savory flavors, every moment was a feast for the senses.
Our day started with a hearty breakfast at Restaurante Buritis. Jan and I fueled up with their famous buffet of made-to-order pastas, selecting fresh ingredients to create a dish that would sustain us through our morning adventures. It’s the perfect way to start a day of hiking, ensuring we had the energy for the trails ahead. I always appreciate a good, customizable meal before a long day of exploring. It reminds me of the simple, nourishing meals my mother used to make back in Kenya, hearty and full of love.
Our first stop was the breathtaking Waterfall Bridal Veil. The drive there was scenic, passing through the heart of the park. As we approached, the anticipation built with each turn, and the sight of the cascading water was nothing short of spectacular. The falls plunge over 120 meters, creating a shimmering curtain that is truly a sight to behold. We spent a good hour just taking in the view, snapping photos, and feeling the mist on our faces. The light was perfect, casting a golden glow on the water.

Sometimes, the most profound experiences are the ones that connect us deeply with nature, reminding us of the simple beauty that exists in the world.
Next on our list was Cachoeira do Lajeado. This was a different experience altogether. The trail to Lajeado was an easy 600 meters, making it a perfect family outing. The water was crystal clear, and we even saw small fish swimming around. Jan and I ventured under the falls, feeling the powerful rush of the water. It wasn't too deep, and it was easy to navigate, making it a fun and refreshing experience. I can imagine this would be a fantastic spot for a family picnic, with plenty of space to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

After our waterfall adventures, we made our way back to Alto Paraíso de Goiás for a late lunch at Zu's Bistro culinária italiana. After all the hiking, Italian food sounded like the perfect comfort meal. The bistro is known for its relaxing atmosphere and homemade cuisine. I opted for one of their creative risottos, while Jan went for a classic lasagna. The flavors were incredible, and it felt like a little trip to Italy right here in Brazil. The staff were friendly, and the ambiance was cozy, making it a perfect spot to unwind. I was reminded of the Italian restaurants in Amsterdam, where Jan and I often go for a comforting meal.

Before dinner, I decided to check out the Chapada Chill Store. I was hoping to find a unique souvenir to take back home. The store had a variety of local crafts, alternative clothing, and artwork inspired by the region. I ended up buying a beautiful, hand-painted ceramic bowl with a Chapada-themed design. It’s the perfect piece to remind me of this trip every time I use it back in Amsterdam.

For dinner, we decided to try La Parrilla, an Uruguayan restaurant known for its authentic grilled meats. The aroma of the open flame grill filled the air as we walked in, and I knew we were in for a treat. Jan and I shared a parrillada platter, sampling various cuts of beef, lamb, and pork, all cooked to perfection. The homemade chimichurri sauce was the perfect complement, adding a burst of flavor to every bite. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff were attentive, making our dining experience truly memorable. It was a delightful culinary experience that brought back memories of our honeymoon in Argentina, where we first discovered our love for South American cuisine.

As the day winds down, I’m already thinking about our plans for tomorrow. We'll be spending our last day exploring more of the Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Veadeiros, including the Trilha da Cachoeira do Segredo. We are also hoping to enjoy a final meal at Restaurante Buritis, Zu's Bistro culinária italiana, and La Parrilla. Before heading to bed, we might visit ALQUIMIA Culinária - Arte - Tabacaria for a relaxing evening.
It’s hard to believe that our adventure is almost over. This trip has been a reminder of the importance of connecting with nature, savoring new experiences, and sharing it all with friends. I’m grateful for every moment, and I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
