Today was a day of pure, unadulterated joy as we continued our exploration of Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park. The park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is renowned for its breathtaking waterfalls, unique rock formations, and rich biodiversity. With my friends by my side, I was eager to see what natural wonders awaited us. It felt good to be out in nature, a welcome change from my usual routine in Amsterdam.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurante Buritis in Alto Paraíso de Goiás. Fuelled up with traditional Brazilian fare, we set off towards our first destination: the Enchanted Well Waterfall (Cachoeira Poço Encantado).

The drive itself was an experience, with the landscape unfolding before us in a tapestry of greens and browns. The Cerrado biome, with its unique vegetation, stretched as far as the eye could see. I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to witness such natural beauty, a world away from the canals and bicycles of Amsterdam. I remembered a quote from a Kikuyu elder back home in Kenya: "Nature is our greatest teacher." And today, nature had a lot to teach.

Reaching the Enchanted Well Waterfall was like stepping into a dream. The waterfall is located between Alto Paraíso and Cavalcante. The cascade of crystal-clear water tumbled into a natural pool, surrounded by lush vegetation. The sun dappled through the trees, creating an ethereal glow on the water's surface. It was the perfect spot for a refreshing dip, and we wasted no time diving in. The water was invigorating, washing away any lingering fatigue from our previous hikes. I felt a sense of childlike wonder as I swam beneath the falls, the cool water massaging my shoulders. It was moments like these that reminded me why I loved to travel – the chance to disconnect from the everyday and reconnect with nature.

After drying off, we decided to explore the area around the waterfall. We discovered a small trail that led us through the forest, where we encountered a variety of birds and butterflies. The air was filled with the sounds of nature – the chirping of insects, the rustling of leaves, and the gentle murmur of the waterfall. It was a symphony of serenity that soothed my soul. The Enchanted Well Waterfall also offered excellent infrastructure, including a restaurant and even SUP boards for rent.

Our next stop was Mirante Novo Horizonte, a viewpoint located in Alto Paraíso de Goiás.

As we drove towards the viewpoint, the landscape began to change, with rolling hills and vast plateaus replacing the dense forest. I couldn't help but think of Jan, my husband, back in Amsterdam. He would have loved this view, with its endless expanse of natural beauty. I made a mental note to bring him here someday.

The view from Mirante Novo Horizonte was simply breathtaking. From our vantage point, we could see the entire Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park stretching out before us. The sun was beginning to set, casting a golden glow over the landscape. The mountains in the distance were silhouetted against the sky, creating a scene of unparalleled beauty. It was the perfect spot to reflect on our journey so far and to appreciate the incredible natural wonders of Brazil.

We spent a long time at the Mirante, simply soaking in the view and enjoying each other's company. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the sky exploded in a riot of colors – oranges, pinks, and purples. It was a moment of pure magic, one that I will never forget. I took several photos, trying to capture the beauty of the scene, but I knew that no photograph could ever truly do it justice. Some things, I realized, are simply meant to be experienced.

As darkness fell, we made our way back to Alto Paraíso de Goiás, our hearts full of joy and gratitude. It was time for dinner, and we had a special treat in store. We had reservations at La Parrilla, a restaurant known for its Argentinian cuisine.

After a day of exploring the natural wonders of Brazil, I was excited to experience the culinary delights of Argentina.

La Parrilla did not disappoint. The restaurant had a warm and inviting atmosphere, with the aroma of grilled meats filling the air. We ordered a selection of dishes, including empanadas, grilled steak, and chimichurri sauce. The food was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. It was the perfect way to end a perfect day.

After dinner, we decided to check out Barteus, a local bar known for its vibrant atmosphere.

We enjoyed a few drinks, chatted with the locals, and listened to live music. It was a fun and lively way to experience the local culture and to unwind after a long day of hiking and sightseeing.

As I lay in my tent that night, surrounded by the sounds of the Cerrado, I couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment. Today had been a day of pure magic, filled with natural beauty, delicious food, and good company. I was grateful for the opportunity to experience the wonders of Chapada dos Veadeiros and to share this adventure with my friends.

Tomorrow, we plan to visit the Waterfall Bridal Veil and Cachoeira do Lajeado. I'm excited to see what new adventures await us, and I can't wait to share them with you all.

Reflecting on my day, I realized that the true beauty of a place lies not just in what you see, but in how it makes you feel.
