Florentine Rhapsody: Art, Innovation, and Culinary Adventures
Today in Florence was a beautiful blend of art, history, and delightful culinary experiences. The city unfolded its Renaissance charm, offering moments of awe and wonder at every turn. It was a day where the past and present danced together, creating memories I will cherish.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Golden View Firenze. The name certainly lived up to its promise! Sitting right on the Arno, the restaurant offered a luxurious take on classic Florentine dishes, illuminated by the sunlight reflecting on the river. It was a perfect way to start the day, fueling up for our adventures with a stunning view.

Next, we strolled to Piazza della Signoria, where the Loggia dei Lanzi stands majestically. The Loggia dei Lanzi is an open-air sculpture gallery, and it was fascinating to observe the details of each sculpture and learn about their history. The sculptures seemed to whisper tales of the past, each telling a story of power, mythology, and artistry. It’s incredible to think that this space has been a focal point of Florentine life for centuries, witnessing countless historical events. Apparently, Michelangelo even proposed that the arches should be continued all around the Piazza. I could easily see why, as the wide arches are very appealing.

Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.
Our next stop was the Museo di San Marco, a place of profound artistic and spiritual significance. Housed in a former Dominican convent, the museum is primarily known for its stunning collection of frescoes by Fra Angelico. As I walked through the serene corridors and into the monastic cells, I was immediately struck by the tranquility and devotion that permeated the space. Each cell featured a unique fresco, painted by Fra Angelico to inspire prayer and meditation. The delicate colors, the expressive figures, and the overall sense of harmony created an atmosphere of sublime beauty. It was a deeply moving experience to witness art serving such a spiritual purpose.

After immersing ourselves in the serene world of Fra Angelico, we decided to shift gears and explore the inventive mind of Leonardo da Vinci at the Leonardo da Vinci Interactive Museum. This museum offered a fascinating glimpse into the world of the Renaissance genius, showcasing his diverse talents as an artist, inventor, scientist, and engineer. The interactive exhibits allowed us to engage with Da Vinci's creations in a hands-on way, bringing his ideas to life before our very eyes. I was particularly impressed by the models of his flying machines, which demonstrated his visionary thinking and his deep understanding of aerodynamics. Jan, always the engineer, was captivated by the mechanics of it all. It's amazing how many of Da Vinci's designs are still relevant today, more than 500 years later.

Following our museum visits, it was time for a late lunch. We chose Coquinarius, a charming restaurant known for its modern vibe and delicious Italian cuisine with a twist. The food was excellent, and the ambiance was perfect for a relaxed midday meal. I enjoyed a plate of their handmade pasta, while my friends savored their steaks. It was the perfect spot to recharge before continuing our exploration of Florence. I will be sure to remember this place for my next visit.

I ended up buying a lovely silk scarf for myself and a tie for Jan. The quality of the silk was exceptional, and the designs were so unique and elegant.
