A Pelion Tapestry: Woven with Time and Nature

As our Pelion adventure nears its end, today was a beautiful reminder of why we chose this destination. It was a day of gentle exploration, filled with history, nature's soothing embrace, and the tantalizing flavors of Greece. I find myself reflecting on how much this journey has enriched our family, especially Sofia, who is absorbing so much of the local culture.

Our day began in the charming area near Poros, where we enjoyed a delightful breakfast at Loukoulos. The aroma of freshly baked bread and strong Greek coffee filled the air, setting the perfect tone for our explorations. It reminded me of mornings in Arezzo, where the simple act of sharing a meal felt like a celebration of life itself. We savored every bite, knowing that each dish was prepared with love and tradition.

With our appetites satisfied, we set out to discover the Clock Tower, an emblematic landmark built in 1927. The climb to the top was a bit challenging, but the panoramic view was more than worth the effort. From our vantage point, we could see the sparkling bay of Poros, the town of Galatas, and the distant coastline of the Peloponnese. The tower itself, a testament to history, was funded by Ioannis Papadopoulos, a member of Parliament from Trizinia. Sofia was fascinated by the clock mechanism, now displayed in a glass case on the ground floor. I imagined Jean-Pierre sketching the landscape, capturing the essence of this historical site with his architect's eye.

Next, we sought the tranquility of the Stream at Poros. The gentle sound of water flowing through the lush landscape was incredibly soothing. We strolled along the banks, admiring the vibrant flora and the sunlight filtering through the trees. Sofia, ever the curious one, spotted several species of birds flitting among the branches. I took a moment to simply breathe, feeling grateful for the peace and serenity that nature provides. The stream is located near Zagora, known for its traditional architecture and charming streets. It's a place where one can easily lose themselves in the beauty of the surroundings.

For lunch, we drove to Souaré Anelion Pelion, a restaurant known for its authentic Pelion cuisine. We savored local specialties, each dish bursting with flavor and tradition. The warm hospitality of the staff made us feel like part of their family. I tried to recall some of the dishes Mamma used to cook, the aromas and flavors so reminiscent of my childhood in Italy.

As evening approached, we found ourselves at To Katofli tis Ketis for dinner. This culinary gem in Katochori is renowned for its traditional Greek cuisine and stunning views. The menu featured a variety of dishes that highlighted the best of Mediterranean cooking, from grilled meats to vibrant salads. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the staff treated us like treasured guests. I highly recommend the grilled octopus, a local favorite. The restaurant is open until midnight, allowing ample time to savor your meal.

After dinner, we decided to experience the local nightlife at ooh la la breezy bar. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, with a diverse menu and a vibrant energy that captivated us. We enjoyed refreshing drinks, soaking in the local scene and reflecting on the day's adventures. It was a perfect way to end a day filled with exploration and discovery.

As I write this, I can't help but feel a touch of sadness that our Pelion journey is coming to an end. Tomorrow, we will visit Saint Konstantinos Park and the Stream at Plakotoura, and perhaps do some last-minute souvenir shopping at Amadryás. I am looking forward to breakfast at KRITSA Restaurant, lunch at cardamo OINOMAGEIREIO, and our final dinner at To Kima • Seaside Family Restaurant. However, I know that the memories we've created here will last a lifetime.

Pelion has a unique way of capturing your heart. It's a place where history, nature, and culture intertwine to create an unforgettable experience. I am so grateful for the opportunity to share this journey with my family, and I hope that our adventures inspire you to explore the hidden gems of Greece.

Tomorrow marks the end of our Pelion adventure. We plan to visit Saint Konstantinos Park and the Stream at Plakotoura, soaking in the last moments of this beautiful region. We'll enjoy our final meals here, savoring the Greek flavors one last time before we head back to Montreal. While I'm eager to return home, I know a part of my heart will forever remain in Pelion.
