Adios, Huascarán!

As our adventure in Huascarán National Park draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible experiences we've had. From the towering peaks to the serene lagoons, this corner of Peru has captured my heart. Today, we savored every last moment, exploring hidden gems and indulging in local flavors before preparing for our journey back to Kelowna. It's a bittersweet feeling, leaving behind this natural paradise, but I'm filled with gratitude for the memories we've created.

Our final day began with a hearty breakfast at Bosque Del Prado in Huaraz. Fueling up with some delicious local fare was essential for the day's adventures. Aaliyah and I enjoyed some fresh bread and coffee, discussing our plans for the day. It felt good to start the day with Aaliyah, and reminisce about the adventure we've had together. The crisp mountain air invigorated us as we set out towards our first destination: Cabaña de laguna Cancaragá.

The drive itself was a treat, with the Cordillera Blanca providing a stunning backdrop. As we approached Cancaragá, the landscape transformed into a surreal canvas of turquoise waters and snow-capped peaks. The lagoon itself was mesmerizing. The still water reflected the surrounding mountains, creating a mirror image that was almost too perfect to be real. We spent a good hour simply taking in the view, breathing in the fresh air, and capturing the moment with our cameras. I wished I had remembered to bring my binoculars, it would have been amazing to spot some wildlife from afar!

Sometimes, the most profound experiences are found in the quietest corners of the world.

After Cancaragá, we decided to explore Antaracá, another hidden gem within Huascarán National Park.

This area offered a different perspective, with rugged trails leading to panoramic viewpoints. The hike was invigorating, and the views were well worth the effort. We even spotted a few vicuñas grazing in the distance, their elegant silhouettes adding to the charm of the landscape. I was so happy that Aaliyah and I were able to experience this together.

By lunchtime, we found ourselves back in Huaraz, ready to sample more of the local cuisine. El Fogón was our choice for lunch, and it didn't disappoint.

We ordered some traditional Peruvian dishes, savoring the flavors that have defined our culinary journey through this country. I went with the Pollo a la Brasa, while Aaliyah chose the Ceviche. The dishes were amazing, and it was a great way to recharge after a morning of hiking. I was also really happy to see how many people were there, enjoying themselves!

In the late afternoon, we decided to explore Huaraz a bit more, stumbling upon Craft Beer House.

Given my interest in craft beer, I couldn't resist stopping in for a taste of local brews. I opted for a Sierra Andina, a craft beer brewed right here in Huaraz. It was the perfect way to unwind and reflect on our journey. Aaliyah enjoyed a refreshing pisco sour, and we chatted with some of the locals, exchanging stories and laughter. It was really interesting to learn about the different kinds of beers they had.

As the sun began to set, we headed to Wayta - El Chef Andino for our farewell dinner.

This restaurant promised an authentic Andean dining experience, and it certainly delivered. From the cozy ambiance to the flavorful dishes, everything was perfect. We ordered a variety of dishes, from Sopa Criolla to Lomo Saltado. Each bite was a celebration of Peruvian flavors, a fitting end to our culinary exploration of Huascarán. I was so happy to share a traditional meal with Aaliyah.

Our time in Huascarán National Park has been nothing short of extraordinary. From the majestic landscapes to the warm hospitality of the Peruvian people, every moment has been a treasure. As we prepare to leave, I'm filled with a sense of gratitude and a longing to return. This park has not only captivated my senses but also deepened my appreciation for the natural world. I am sure Aaliyah feels the same way. I am also very happy that we were able to disconnect from our daily lives back in Kelowna, and connect with nature here in Huascarán.

As we head back to Kelowna, I know that the memories of Huascarán will stay with me forever. The towering peaks, the serene lagoons, and the vibrant culture have left an indelible mark on my soul. I hope that our journey has inspired you to explore the beauty of our planet and to appreciate the wonders of the natural world.

While this marks the end of our Huascarán adventure, it's just the beginning of our journey as explorers. Who knows where our travels will take us next? One thing is for sure: the world is full of wonders waiting to be discovered, and I can't wait to see what's next!

Adios, Huascarán! Thank you for the memories.
