Tasmanian Wilderness Beckons
Today was a day of deep immersion into the heart of the Tasmanian Wilderness. The crisp air, the scent of ancient forests, and the roar of cascading water filled my senses. Leaving behind the familiar comforts of Munich, I sought solace and adventure in this remote corner of the world, and today, Tasmania delivered in spades.
My day began with a hearty breakfast at Altitude Restaurant + Lounge Bar. The views from the restaurant were simply breathtaking, a panorama of lush forest stretching as far as the eye could see. It's amazing how quickly one can feel connected to nature here. The staff were incredibly friendly and seemed genuinely interested in my travels. I enjoyed their salads, cakes, and slices, and the coffee was just what I needed to kickstart my day of exploration.

Fueled and ready, I set off to explore the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a sanctuary of pristine wilderness, protecting Tasmania's great western rivers and remote mountain ranges. Driving along the Lyell Highway, I was struck by the sheer scale of the landscape. Towering mountains, deep gorges, and dense rainforests unfolded around every bend. It's a place where nature reigns supreme, and humanity feels like a humble guest.

I decided to take the Franklin River Nature Trail, a short but rewarding walk that offered stunning views of the Franklin and Surprise rivers. The rainforest was alive with the sounds of birdsong and the rustling of leaves. Towering trees draped in moss created an ethereal atmosphere, transporting me to another world. I found myself stopping frequently, simply to take it all in. This is the kind of place that makes you feel truly alive, connected to something larger than yourself.
The wilderness holds answers to questions we have not yet learned to ask.
Next on the agenda was Nelson Falls, a majestic cascade nestled within the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. The walk to the falls was an easy stroll along a well-maintained boardwalk, making it accessible to all. As I approached the falls, the air grew cooler and the sound of rushing water filled my ears. The falls themselves were a sight to behold, a torrent of water plunging down a rocky cliff face into a pool below. The surrounding rainforest was lush and vibrant, with ferns and mosses clinging to every surface. It was a scene of unparalleled beauty, a testament to the power and artistry of nature.

I spent a long time at Nelson Falls, simply soaking in the atmosphere. The mist from the falls kissed my face, and the sound of the water was both calming and invigorating. I felt a sense of peace and tranquility wash over me, a feeling that is all too rare in the hustle and bustle of modern life. It was a moment of pure bliss, a reminder of the simple joys that nature has to offer.
For lunch, I stopped at Bruni's Restaurant. After a day immersed in nature, I was ready for a culinary experience, and Bruni's did not disappoint. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the food was simply divine. I savored every bite, appreciating the skill and artistry that went into each dish. It was the perfect way to refuel and recharge before continuing my adventures.

As evening approached, I made my way back to Hobart, eager to experience the city's nightlife. I had heard great things about Evolve Spirits Bar, a stylish lounge known for its extensive collection of Tasmanian whiskies. As someone who appreciates a good dram, I knew I had to check it out.

Evolve Spirits Bar was even more impressive than I had imagined. The bar itself was sleek and modern, with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The walls were lined with bottles of whisky from around the world, a testament to the bar's dedication to the art of distillation. The bartender was knowledgeable and passionate, guiding me through the extensive menu and helping me select a whisky that suited my palate.
What made Evolve Spirits Bar truly unique, however, was its collection of rare artifacts. Fossils, skeletons, and other historical objects were displayed throughout the bar, creating a museum-like atmosphere. Sipping on a fine whisky while surrounded by ancient relics was an experience unlike any other. It was a reminder of the rich history and natural beauty that Tasmania has to offer.
I ended my evening with dinner at Mrs Jones Restaurant Bar Lounge in Devonport. The restaurant is located beach side at the Bluff, offering stunning views of the ocean. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, and the food was delicious. I enjoyed the oysters and the pan fried pork belly, and the service was attentive. It was the perfect way to end a day of exploration and adventure.

As I reflect on my day, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to experience the Tasmanian Wilderness. It is a place of unparalleled beauty and tranquility, a sanctuary for both nature and the soul. I am eager to see what tomorrow brings, as I plan to visit Montezuma Falls and Philosopher Falls. But for now, I will rest and dream of wild rivers and whispering falls.
Tomorrow, Day 11, promises more natural wonders as I plan to visit Montezuma Falls and Philosopher Falls. I'm also hoping to find some unique souvenirs at The Shop in the Bush. Until then, goodnight from Tasmania!
The solitude of this solo trip, while initially daunting, has become a source of profound peace. It's a stark contrast to my life in Munich, where the demands of work and family often leave me feeling stretched thin. Here, in the vastness of the Tasmanian wilderness, I can finally hear my own thoughts, reconnect with my inner self, and rediscover the simple joys of life. Perhaps this is what I needed all along: a chance to escape the noise and find my center once more. This trip is not just about seeing beautiful places; it's about finding myself again.
I'm also reminded of my family back in Munich. I miss Max and Astrid dearly, but I know that this trip is also for them. I want to bring back stories and experiences that will enrich their lives and inspire them to explore the world. I want to show Astrid that anything is possible if you set your mind to it, and that even a girl from Norway can find adventure in the most unexpected places. And I want to remind Max that there is more to life than software engineering, that there is beauty and wonder to be found in the natural world.
As I drift off to sleep, I am filled with a sense of anticipation for the days to come. Tasmania has already exceeded my expectations, and I know that there are many more adventures waiting to be discovered. I am grateful for this opportunity to reconnect with nature, to find myself, and to bring back stories that will inspire my family for years to come. Goodnight, Tasmania. See you in the morning.
