Our Icelandic adventure has officially begun! Today marked our arrival and first foray into the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, a region promising dramatic landscapes and unforgettable experiences. I'm excited to share our initial impressions and the highlights of our first day exploring this unique corner of the world with Lena.

The journey from Berlin to Reykjavik was smooth, and the process of picking up our rental car went without a hitch. Lena, ever the navigator, had us pointed in the right direction towards Snæfellsnes in no time. I was immediately struck by the vastness of the Icelandic landscape. It's a stark contrast to the familiar cityscape of Berlin, a welcome change that invigorated us both. It was a great starting point, providing us with valuable information about the peninsula, its history, and the various attractions we planned to visit. From there, we set our sights on the Eldborg Crater Trailhead. The drive to the trailhead was an experience in itself, winding through lava fields covered in moss. As a software developer, I'm used to dealing with the digital world, but being surrounded by such raw, natural beauty was a humbling experience.

We headed to Hlaðan Veitingahús for breakfast, a charming little spot that came highly recommended. The breakfast was hearty and delicious, the perfect fuel for our adventures. I opted for the traditional Icelandic skyr with berries, while Lena chose the smoked salmon with rye bread. Both were excellent, and we left feeling satisfied and ready for the rest of the day.

For our main courses, I chose the grilled cod, while Lena opted for the lobster pasta. Both dishes were cooked to perfection, the seafood fresh and flavorful. The service was excellent, and we felt pampered and well taken care of. It was the perfect way to end our first day in Iceland, a culinary journey that delighted our senses.

One minor hiccup today was realizing I had forgotten my power adapter! Luckily, the visitor center had one available for purchase, but it was a good reminder to double-check my packing list in the future. Lena, of course, teased me about my forgetfulness, but she was secretly relieved that we were able to find a replacement.

As we settled into our campsite for the night, I reflected on the day's experiences. The Snæfellsnes Peninsula had already exceeded my expectations, offering a blend of natural beauty, cultural insights, and culinary delights. I am looking forward to tomorrow where we plan to explore Snæfellsjökull National Park and Arnarstapi Cliff Viewpoint, and perhaps even enjoy a drink at Arnarstapi Center and Snjófell Restaurant.
