Living the Blue Dream: A Day in Chefchaouen
Today was another one of those days where I felt like I was living inside a postcard. Chefchaouen, with its mesmerizing blue-washed buildings, has a way of captivating you, and today was no exception. It was a day of wandering through vibrant streets, discovering hidden gems, and indulging in the local flavors. The charm of this Moroccan town is truly something special, and I'm excited to share my experiences with you all.
The day started, as most good days do, with a hearty breakfast. We headed to Restaurant Ali Baba, a local favorite known for its traditional Moroccan breakfast. I opted for the classic *msemen*, a flaky pancake served with honey and cheese, while Lena went for the *beghrir*, spongy pancakes with a thousand holes, perfect for soaking up melted butter and honey. It was the perfect fuel for a day of exploring.
After breakfast, we decided to dive straight into the heart of Chefchaouen's medina. Our first stop was Tuiles colorées, a vibrant mosaic that adds a splash of color to the already blue city. The intricate designs and vivid hues were a feast for the eyes, and I spent a good while snapping photos from every angle. It's amazing how such a small detail can add so much character to a place. Lena, ever the artist, was particularly inspired by the tilework, making mental notes of patterns and color combinations for her next graphic design project.

The beauty of Chefchaouen lies not just in its picturesque scenery, but also in the warmth and hospitality of its people.
Next on our list was Bab El Hammar, one of the iconic gates of the city. As we walked through the gate, I couldn't help but feel a sense of stepping back in time. The old brickwork and traditional architecture were a stark contrast to the modern world, and it was easy to imagine what life might have been like centuries ago. We took our time wandering through the surrounding streets, soaking in the atmosphere and admiring the traditional buildings.

By lunchtime, our stomachs were starting to rumble again, so we made our way to Restaurant blue dream. This place had been recommended to us by several locals, and it certainly lived up to the hype. The restaurant itself was beautifully decorated, with a cozy atmosphere and stunning views of the surrounding landscape. I decided to try the tagine, a classic Moroccan dish, while Lena opted for the couscous. Both were absolutely delicious, and we left feeling satisfied and ready for more adventures.

After lunch, we took a leisurely stroll through the medina, getting lost in the maze of narrow streets and alleyways. Every corner seemed to reveal a new surprise, whether it was a hidden courtyard, a colorful doorway, or a local artisan selling their wares. I couldn't resist picking up a few souvenirs, including a hand-painted ceramic bowl and a small leather pouch. Lena found a beautiful Berber rug that she plans to use as a wall hanging in her studio.
As the afternoon wore on, we decided to take a break from exploring and relax at Café Mundial. This café is a popular spot for both locals and tourists, and it's easy to see why. The atmosphere is laid-back and welcoming, and the coffee is excellent. I ordered a traditional Moroccan mint tea, while Lena went for an espresso. We sat outside, watching the world go by and soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of the city.

For dinner, we chose Restaurant Hajji, known for its authentic Moroccan cuisine and inviting atmosphere. The tagine was a must-try, and it was indeed flavorful and aromatic. Lena enjoyed the freshly baked bread and couscous, prepared with great attention to detail. The blue walls of the restaurant mirrored the city's hues, enhancing our dining experience. We savored every bite, feeling connected to the heart of Chefchaouen.

As the sun began to set, we found ourselves reflecting on the day's adventures. The weather in Chefchaouen in October is generally pleasant, with warm days and cool evenings. Today was no exception, with clear skies and a gentle breeze. It was the perfect day for exploring, and I felt grateful for the opportunity to experience such a unique and beautiful place.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, we plan to explore the Jebel Bouhachem Nature Reserve and Darb Limoun [If tomorrow is last day of trip, merge in “Trip end”]. I'm excited to see more of the natural beauty that surrounds Chefchaouen, and I'm sure it will be another day filled with unforgettable experiences. Lena is particularly looking forward to visiting Bazar Sáhara, hoping to find some unique textiles and handicrafts to add to her collection.
Before heading back to our Riad Zaitouna Chaouen, I started reflecting on the day and the experiences we shared. I am glad I remembered to bring my camera, but I forgot my sunglasses and portable charger, which was a bit of a nuisance. I was able to capture some great shots of the blue city, and Lena also took some pictures with her phone. Overall, it was an incredible day, and I'm already looking forward to what tomorrow brings.
