Last Day Reflections

As my Chapada Diamantina National Park adventure draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible experiences I've had in this breathtaking national park. From the stunning vistas to the warm hospitality of the locals, every moment has been a treasure. Today, I wanted to soak up just a little more of this natural beauty before heading back to Germany.

The morning sun greeted me with its warm embrace, a gentle reminder that even farewells can be beautiful. I decided to dedicate my last day to a leisurely exploration, starting with a visit to Cachoeirinha. The name translates to 'small waterfall,' and it certainly lived up to its name, offering a more intimate and gentle experience compared to some of the region's grander cascades. It was the perfect spot for a refreshing dip, a final immersion in the crystalline waters of Chapada Diamantina.

The walk to Cachoeirinha was easy, making it a popular spot for families. I could see why Liesel would have loved it here, splashing around in the shallow pool and spotting the colorful little fish. The surrounding vegetation was lush and vibrant, a peaceful haven that made me feel completely at ease. I took my time, savoring the tranquility and reflecting on the adventures of the past eleven days.

Sometimes, the most profound experiences are found in the simplest of moments, like a quiet afternoon spent by a gentle waterfall.

After my refreshing interlude at Cachoeirinha, I decided to head back to Lençóis. The town itself has a certain charm, with its cobblestone streets and colorful buildings. I strolled through the Cultural Market, admiring the local arts and crafts. It was a great place to pick up a few souvenirs, little reminders of my time in Chapada Diamantina. I found a beautiful hand-painted bowl that I knew Liesel would adore, and a small, intricately carved wooden figure for Hans, a nod to his love for all things handcrafted.

As the day wore on, I knew I wanted to experience a bit of the local nightlife before heading back to my guesthouse. I had heard whispers about Cervejaria Sincorá, a microbrewery that was making waves in the region. It seemed like the perfect place to raise a glass to my Chapada Diamantina adventure.

Cervejaria Sincorá is located in Lençóis. The name is inspired by the Serra do Sincorá, a mountain range in Chapada Diamantina. The brewery is known for creating flavorful and aromatic beers, perfect for those seeking distinctive and enjoyable drinks. I decided to visit the brewery, and it turned out to be a great choice. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, and I immediately felt at home. I sampled a few of their craft beers, each one unique and delicious. It was fascinating to learn about the brewing process, the passion that went into each batch. Apparently, the microbrewery scene has been growing in Chapada Diamantina, which is great. Sincorá has even won some awards.

I opted for their Vienna Lager, a bronze medal winner, as recommended by the bartender. It was the perfect choice – smooth, flavorful, and a wonderful way to celebrate the end of my journey. Chatting with the locals, I learned that the brewery's name was inspired by the Serra do Sincorá mountains, a fitting tribute to the region's natural beauty.

As I sipped my beer, I couldn't help but feel grateful for this incredible experience. Chapada Diamantina had exceeded all my expectations, offering a unique blend of adventure, tranquility, and cultural immersion. It was a place that had touched my soul, a place I knew I would never forget. I even made a mental note to try and recreate some of the local dishes back in Bamberg, perhaps with a Franconian twist. Hans would certainly appreciate that!

The evening ended with a simple dinner. I found a small restaurant and had a hearty feijoada, a traditional Brazilian stew of beans and pork. It was the perfect way to end my culinary journey through Chapada Diamantina.

As I packed my bags, I felt a pang of sadness, but also a deep sense of contentment. I had come to Chapada Diamantina seeking adventure and connection with nature, and I had found so much more. I had discovered a place of breathtaking beauty, a place of warm and welcoming people, a place that had left an indelible mark on my heart.

Chapada Diamantina in October is quite warm, with average temperatures ranging from 18°C to 32°C. It's also considered the beginning of the rainy season. October is generally a good time to visit, with warm, breezy weather.

I'm already looking forward to sharing my stories and photos with Hans and Liesel, and perhaps even planning a return trip with them someday. Until then, I'll carry the memories of Chapada Diamantina with me, a reminder of the beauty and wonder that awaits those who dare to explore the world.

This solo journey has been a reminder of the importance of stepping outside my comfort zone, of embracing the unknown, and of finding joy in the simple moments. As I prepare to leave this enchanting place, I raise a final toast to Chapada Diamantina, to the adventures I've had, and to the memories I'll cherish forever. Auf wiedersehen, Chapada Diamantina. Until we meet again.

And with that, my Chapada Diamantina adventure comes to an end. It's time to head back to Lençóis and prepare for my journey back to Salvador, and eventually, home to Bamberg. It’s been an incredible trip, one that I’ll treasure forever. I hope you’ve enjoyed following along, and that my experiences have inspired you to embark on your own adventures, wherever they may lead.

Tomorrow marks the end of my trip. I'll be heading to the airport to begin my journey back to Bamberg. While I'm excited to see Hans and Liesel, a part of me will always remain in Chapada Diamantina. Thank you for joining me on this adventure!
