A Blue Daydream

Today was a day of diving deep into the heart of Chefchaouen, letting its mesmerizing blue embrace me completely. From exploring ancient artifacts to savoring authentic Moroccan cuisine, every moment felt like stepping further into a vibrant dream. It’s amazing how a place can capture your imagination and leave you utterly spellbound.

The day began with the enticing aroma of Moroccan spices wafting from Restaurant Triana, where Olivia and I met the others for breakfast. The promise of a traditional Moroccan breakfast was too good to resist, and it certainly delivered. The restaurant itself had a very relaxing atmosphere [the kind of atmosphere I love to be in when I'm travelling - no rush, just enjoying the moment].

After breakfast, we started with a tour of the Blue Medina, which was a truly immersive experience. Wandering through the twisting alleyways with our guide, it felt like stepping into another world. The history of the town came alive as we learned about the traditions and stories woven into the very fabric of the Medina. Every corner turned revealed a new photographic opportunity, and I found myself snapping away, trying to capture the essence of this magical place. It was fascinating to learn about the reasons behind the blue hues. I learned that some say it keeps mosquitos away, while others believe it represents the sky and heaven. Either way, it created a stunning visual experience.

The true essence of travel lies not just in seeing new places, but in experiencing them with all your senses, immersing yourself in the culture, and letting it transform you.

Next on the agenda was the Ethnographic Museum of Chefchaouen. Housed within the Kasbah, the museum offered a fascinating glimpse into the region's rich cultural heritage. From traditional costumes and jewelry to ancient weapons and musical instruments, the exhibits showcased the diverse influences that have shaped Chefchaouen over the centuries. It was interesting to see the blend of Berber, Arab, and Andalusian traditions reflected in the artifacts. Olivia was particularly captivated by the intricate embroidery on the traditional garments, while I was drawn to the displays of ancient weaponry, imagining the battles fought within these very walls.

Lunch at Restaurant Hajji was a delightful affair. We sampled a variety of Moroccan dishes, from flavorful tagines to savory couscous. The restaurant had a cozy, inviting atmosphere, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I tried a traditional tagine with chicken and preserved lemons, while Olivia opted for the vegetarian couscous, which was packed with fresh vegetables and aromatic spices. We all shared a pot of sweet mint tea, the perfect accompaniment to our meal.

As the afternoon wore on, we decided to take a break from sightseeing and unwind at Cafe Clock. This place had a really unique vibe, with its eclectic decor and laid-back atmosphere. We found a spot on the rooftop terrace, where we could soak up the panoramic views of the blue city while sipping on refreshing mint lemonade. The cafe also offers live music and cooking classes, adding to its appeal. I made a mental note to check out a cooking class if we have time.

For dinner, we ventured to The Magic Lamp House of Aladin, a restaurant recommended by our guide. The name itself conjured up images of Arabian Nights, and the restaurant did not disappoint. The decor was exotic and enchanting, with colorful cushions, intricate lanterns, and traditional Moroccan carpets. The menu featured a range of Moroccan specialties, and we decided to try the chef's tasting menu, which included a variety of small dishes designed to showcase the best of Moroccan cuisine. From the flavorful harira soup to the succulent grilled meats and the delicate pastries, every dish was a culinary delight. The service was impeccable, and the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

As the day drew to a close, I couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment. Chefchaouen had cast its spell on me, captivating me with its beauty, its history, and its culture. Tomorrow, we plan to visit the City View Point for a panoramic perspective of Chefchaouen. I'm also looking forward to seeing Bab El Hammar and Dar Antonio Chefchaouen. We'll start the day with breakfast at Café & restaurant Meftah, followed by lunch at Restaurant blue dream, and dinner at Restaurant Terrasse Djebli. I’m also hoping we can squeeze in some time at B & H Art Shop and Sunset at sunset. I’m sure tomorrow will be another day filled with unforgettable experiences.

I'm so grateful to be sharing this adventure with Olivia and our friends. It's moments like these that make life truly special. I know that the memories we're creating here in Chefchaouen will stay with me long after we've left this magical blue city.

I realized that I forgot to pack my travel adapter and rain jacket. I hope I can buy a travel adapter tomorrow, so I can keep my camera and phone charged. It does not look like it will rain tomorrow, so I should be fine without the rain jacket.
