Today was a day of vibrant contrasts, seamlessly blending the thrill of underwater exploration with the tranquil beauty of an African sunset. It’s days like these that remind me why I wanted to share my homeland with my family, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Our day started with a hearty breakfast at Casa Jules. The kids were excited, not just for the diving adventure ahead, but also because Casa Jules is right on the beach, offering stunning views of the Bazaruto Archipelago. Fatima and I enjoyed our coffee while Nelson and Sheila played in the sand, their laughter echoing in the morning breeze. The weather in Vilanculos in August is perfect, with warm temperatures and low rainfall, ideal for outdoor activities. After breakfast, we packed our essentials – sunscreen, swimwear, and of course, the camera to capture every moment.

Our main activity for the morning was diving with Odyssea Dive. As someone who loves to explore the depths, I couldn't wait to share this experience with my family. Though the kids are too young to dive, Fatima and I took turns while the other stayed with them, building sandcastles and splashing in the shallows. Odyssea Dive is known for their professional and friendly service, and I felt completely safe and in competent hands. The dive sites are located in the Bazaruto Archipelago, a boat ride away but well worth it.

The underwater world was simply breathtaking. The corals were vibrant, teeming with marine life of all colors and sizes. I saw schools of fish darting around, swaying anemones, and even a manta ray gracefully gliding in the distance. The Bazaruto Archipelago is a protected marine reserve, and it shows. The reefs are healthy and unspoiled, a testament to the conservation efforts in the area. It was an experience that Fatima and I will cherish forever, and one that I hope to share with Nelson and Sheila when they are old enough.

After our diving adventure, we were all famished. We headed to WASABI SUSHI, CAFE E LUNCHES for lunch. It might seem odd to have sushi in Mozambique, but I had heard great things about this place, and I wanted to try something different. Plus, Sheila is a huge sushi fan! The reviews didn't lie – the sushi was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. They use local ingredients, which gives their sushi a unique Mozambican twist. Nelson, who is usually a picky eater, devoured the California rolls. Fatima and I enjoyed the signature rolls, which were bursting with flavor. The cozy ambiance and friendly staff made it a perfect spot for a family lunch.

With our bellies full, we decided to take it easy for a bit. We spent the afternoon lounging on the beach, soaking up the sun, and playing games. Nelson and Sheila buried me in the sand, and Fatima captured the moment with our camera. It was simple, carefree fun, the kind that reminds you of the joy of being together as a family.

As the day began to wind down, we prepared for our Sunset Dhow Safari. This was something I had been looking forward to since planning the trip. A dhow is a traditional sailing boat, and there’s no better way to experience the beauty of the Mozambican coast than on a leisurely sail at sunset. We boarded the dhow at Vilanculos main beach, and as we set sail, the sky began to transform into a canvas of vibrant colors.

The dhow safari took us along the coast, offering stunning views of the Vilanculos bay and King Fish Bay. We stopped at the Red Dune beach, where we watched the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange, pink, and purple. It was a breathtaking sight, one that left us all in awe. The kids were mesmerized, and Fatima and I held hands, savoring the moment. On the dhow, we enjoyed a soft meal as the sun set. The gentle rocking of the boat, the cool sea breeze, and the stunning scenery created a sense of peace and tranquility. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.

For dinner, we decided to try Jenny's Bar, Restaurant & Guest Rooms. I had heard that they offer authentic Mozambican cuisine, and I wanted my family to experience the local flavors. Jenny's did not disappoint. Fatima and I tried the prawns and seafood options, while the kids enjoyed some chicken. The staff was friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home.

After dinner, while Fatima took the kids back to our relatives' house, I decided to check out Vibes Lounge & Bar. I wanted to experience some of Vilanculos' nightlife. The lounge had a great atmosphere, with music and friendly people. It was a nice way to unwind after a long day of activities. August in Vilanculos offers pleasant evenings, perfect for enjoying a drink and soaking in the local vibes.
