Today was a day I had been dreaming of for years – a day to explore the legendary Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. Waking up with a mix of excitement and nervous anticipation, I knew this would be a highlight of my solo journey through Peru. Little did I know, the day would be filled with not only historical wonders but also delightful culinary experiences.
The day began early, as most days do when you're trying to squeeze every last drop out of an adventure. I grabbed a quick breakfast at Mapacho Craft Beer Restaurant. It was conveniently located and offered a hearty start to the day.

Fueled up, I set off to explore the Inca Trail.

The allure of the Inca Trail was undeniable. Even though I wasn't trekking the full four-day route, just experiencing a small section of this ancient path was incredible. The stones beneath my feet seemed to whisper stories of the past, of emperors and messengers traversing these very paths. The crisp mountain air and the panoramic views were simply breathtaking. I could almost feel the spirits of the Incas guiding my way.
Sometimes, the greatest journeys are those that lead us back to ourselves.
After a fulfilling morning immersed in history and nature, hunger started to creep in. I made my way to KUSYKAY Peruvian Craft Food for lunch.

The reviews I had read raved about their innovative takes on traditional Peruvian dishes, and I was eager to see for myself. I decided on the Lomo de Alpaca, and it was an absolute delight. The alpaca was tender and flavorful, and the presentation was as artistic as it was appetizing. The staff was incredibly friendly, offering insights into the local ingredients and even a complimentary tea to help with the altitude. It’s these small touches that make a dining experience truly memorable.
With my stomach content and my spirit rejuvenated, I finally approached the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.

As I rounded the final bend and the iconic city unfolded before my eyes, I was utterly speechless. The sheer scale and ingenuity of the site were astounding. The precision of the stonework, the way the city blended seamlessly into the surrounding landscape – it was a testament to the remarkable skills of the Inca people. I spent hours wandering through the ruins, imagining what life must have been like in this ancient city. The Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana, every corner seemed to hold a secret, a story waiting to be discovered.
As the sun began to dip behind the mountains, casting long shadows across the city, I knew it was time to start heading back down. But the day wasn't over yet. Dinner was at Mistura Grill & Restaurant.

I wanted a place where I could reflect on the day while enjoying more of Peru's culinary delights. Mistura Grill offered just that, with its cozy ambiance and a menu that blended traditional flavors with a contemporary twist. I opted for the Lomo Saltado, a classic dish that never disappoints. The combination of marinated beef, onions, tomatoes, and peppers, served with crispy potatoes, was the perfect way to end a perfect day. The service was impeccable, the staff attentive and eager to share recommendations.
Before calling it a night, I decided to check out Cholos Brewpub.

I savored a local craft beer, reflecting on the incredible experiences of the day. The vibrant atmosphere of the pub was a great contrast to the serene majesty of Machu Picchu, offering a glimpse into the modern culture of Aguas Calientes. It was a perfect way to wind down and prepare for the next leg of my adventure.
Tomorrow, I plan to explore the Temple of the Moon and Tierras Vivas [If tomorrow is NOT the last day of the trip]. Or [Trip end] I plan to head back to Vancouver, filled with incredible memories [If tomorrow IS the last day of the trip].
Today was more than just a visit to a historical site; it was a journey through time and culture, a celebration of human ingenuity and natural beauty. Machu Picchu, you were everything I dreamed of and more. Vinaka vakalevu!
