A Day of Patagonian Delights
Today was all about embracing the raw, untamed beauty of Futaleufu. From the tranquil Río Espolon to the sprawling Pumalín National Park, I soaked in the kind of scenery that makes you feel utterly insignificant – in the best possible way. It was a day of exploration, reflection, and a few well-deserved treats.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at ECLYPZZA (formerly Pizzas de Fabio). I had heard great things about their breakfast options, and I wasn't disappointed. Fueled up, I set off to explore the Río Espolon. The river, which flows from the Andes and into the Futaleufú River, is known for its stunning turquoise waters and lush surroundings. Although I didn't brave the rapids in a kayak this time, the gentle sounds of the water and the vibrant scenery were enough to captivate me. I spent a good hour just wandering along the riverbank, taking photos and breathing in the crisp Patagonian air. The river is a popular spot for rafting and kayaking, and I could see why. The idea of floating down the Río Espolon on a raft sounds amazing, and I'm adding that to my list for my next visit.
After my riverside stroll, I decided to venture into Pumalín National Park. Getting there involved a bit of a bus ride and a short hop, but the journey was well worth it.

Pumalin Park, or Pumalin Douglas Tompkins National Park, is a vast protected area that showcases the region's incredible biodiversity. The park offers numerous hiking trails, and I chose one that led me through ancient forests and past cascading waterfalls. The scale of the park is simply breathtaking, and I felt a profound sense of peace as I walked beneath the towering trees. The park was donated to the Chilean government in 2018 and has become a popular place for outdoor lovers.
Sometimes, the greatest adventures are the ones where you lose yourself in the sheer immensity of nature.
Lunch was a delightful affair at Antigua Casona Hotel - Restaurante Italiano. This charming restaurant offered a warm and inviting atmosphere, and I decided to try their pasta, especially because I heard the owners are Italian. It turned out to be a fantastic choice. The pasta was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was rich and flavorful. It was a welcome taste of Europe in the heart of Patagonia. The hotel is located close to the Plaza de Armas, and is in a historic building. The combination of Italian food and Chilean hospitality was simply perfect.

In the afternoon, I made a spontaneous decision to visit Dulce Hechicera, a local shop known for its sweets. I have a weakness for trying local treats, and I figured it would be a perfect way to cap off a day of exploring. The shop was filled with an array of colorful candies, pastries, and chocolates. I ended up buying a selection of local delicacies, including some handmade chocolates and traditional Chilean sweets. It was a sugar rush of the best kind, and I savored every bite as I walked back to my accommodation.

For dinner, I chose SurAndes Futaleufú, a restaurant that had been highly recommended to me. The restaurant has a reputation for combining international and Chilean dishes using local ingredients. I went with a lamb dish and it was beautifully prepared and presented. The ambiance was relaxed and elegant, and the service was attentive and friendly. It was the perfect way to end a day filled with natural beauty and culinary delights.

As I reflect on today's adventures, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to experience the wonders of Futaleufu. The Río Espolon and Pumalín National Park are truly special places, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the chance to explore them. And the food? Well, let's just say that Futaleufu has won a place in my heart (and my stomach).
Tomorrow, I'm planning to visit Mirador Del Condor and Torres del Arrayan, two spots that promise even more stunning views. I also plan to check out CERVECERIA ESCARCHA PATAGONIA. I'm looking forward to another day of adventure in this beautiful corner of the world. And I definitely won't forget my sunglasses this time!
