A Fond Farewell to Husavik

As my Icelandic adventure draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible experiences of the past nine days. Today was all about soaking in the last moments of Husavik's unique charm, from its serene landscapes to its quirky attractions. It's amazing how a place can feel like home in such a short time, and I'm already planning my return.

The day began with a hearty breakfast at Heimabakarí. The aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries filled the air, a comforting start to the day. I opted for a traditional Icelandic pastry, a skyr cake, which was absolutely delicious. The café was bustling with locals and tourists alike, all eager to start their day with a sweet treat. Isabela would have loved this place; she always had a weakness for bakeries back in Ouro Preto.

After breakfast, my friends and I decided to visit the Lava Church, also known as Hljóðaklettar. The drive there was scenic, with rolling hills and rugged coastline stretching as far as the eye could see. As we approached the church, I was immediately struck by its unique geological formations. The towering basalt columns and intricate rock structures resembled a grand cathedral, a testament to the power and artistry of nature. We spent a couple of hours exploring the area, taking photos and simply enjoying the peaceful ambiance. The crisp Icelandic air and the stunning views made it a truly unforgettable experience.

Next on our itinerary was the Húsavík viewing point. Perched high above the town, it offered a panoramic vista of the coastline, the rolling hills, and the vast North Atlantic Ocean. The sky was painted with vibrant colors, and the view was simply breathtaking. I could see why this spot is a favorite among photographers and nature enthusiasts. I took several photos, trying to capture the beauty of the moment, but no picture could truly do it justice. It was a moment of pure bliss, a perfect reminder of why I love to travel. I made a mental note to show Mateus the pictures when I got home; he's been fascinated with volcanoes ever since he learned about them in school.

For lunch, we decided to try Pizzakofinn, a local pizza place known for its creative and delicious pizzas. I ordered the Crispy Chicken Pizza, which came highly recommended, and it did not disappoint. The crust was perfectly crispy, and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. My friends and I sat outside, enjoying our pizzas while soaking in the lively atmosphere of the town. It was a casual and fun experience, a perfect way to refuel after a morning of exploring.

In the late afternoon, we decided to visit the Jaja Ding Dong Húsavík bar. Inspired by the Netflix movie Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, this bar is a quirky and fun tribute to all things Eurovision. As a big fan of Eurovision, I was excited to check it out. The bar was decorated with Eurovision memorabilia, and the cocktail menu featured drinks inspired by the movie. I ordered the Húsavík cocktail, which was both delicious and potent. The atmosphere was lively, with people singing along to Eurovision tunes and enjoying the camaraderie. It was a perfect way to end our last day in Husavik, a celebration of music, friendship, and Icelandic quirkiness. It reminded me of the lively parties we used to have back in Ouro Preto during Carnaval.

For our final dinner in Iceland, we chose Lókal Bistro, a charming café known for its fresh, locally-sourced dishes. The bistro had a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and the staff was incredibly friendly. I ordered the local fish dish, which was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. My friends and I reminisced about our adventures in Iceland, sharing stories and laughter. It was a bittersweet moment, knowing that our trip was coming to an end, but also filled with gratitude for the incredible experiences we had shared.

As I sit here now, writing this blog post from my cozy room at Fosshotel Husavik, I can't help but feel a sense of nostalgia. This trip has been an incredible journey, filled with stunning landscapes, unique experiences, and unforgettable memories. From whale watching in Skjálfandi Bay to exploring the Lava Church and enjoying the quirky charm of Jaja Ding Dong, Husavik has captured my heart.
