Day 3: Geothermal Bliss and Eurovision Fun in Húsavík
Today was a day of contrasts, blending the serene relaxation of Iceland's geothermal waters with the quirky, vibrant world of Eurovision. It’s amazing how a place like Húsavík can offer such diverse experiences in a single day. I was eager to experience Iceland's unique attractions and discover more about this charming town with my friends.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Hérna. The cozy atmosphere and the aroma of freshly baked goods were the perfect way to start the day. I opted for a traditional Icelandic pastry and a strong coffee, fueling up for the adventures ahead. Isabela chose a light yogurt with berries, while the others went for the savory panini. It felt like a warm embrace against the crisp morning air.
With our stomachs full and spirits high, we made our way to GeoSea, Húsavík's renowned geothermal sea baths. The drive itself was breathtaking, with panoramic views of the Skjálfandi Bay and the surrounding mountains. As we arrived, the crisp Arctic air nipped at our faces, but the promise of warm, mineral-rich waters kept us excited. I quickly changed into my swimsuit, eager to immerse myself in the geothermal waters. Stepping into the warm water, I felt my muscles instantly relax. The Geosea baths are perched on a cliff overlooking the bay, offering an infinity pool experience with stunning views. The water, naturally heated and rich in minerals, is said to have healing properties, particularly for skin conditions.

Floating in the warm geothermal waters, gazing out at the stunning Skjálfandi Bay, I felt a sense of peace I rarely experience amidst the hustle of everyday life.
The experience was surreal. The air was cool, but the water was a perfect 38-39 degrees Celsius. We spent a couple of hours soaking, chatting, and simply enjoying the moment. I even braved a quick dip in the cold tub before returning to the warmth. The contrast was invigorating. Mateus would have loved this place, I thought to myself, picturing him splashing around with his diving sticks. It’s definitely a place I’d bring the whole family next time. I could see why some consider it a great alternative to the Blue Lagoon. The views were simply unmatched, stretching out to the horizon where the Arctic Circle meets the Icelandic coast. We even grabbed drinks at the swim-up bar, a unique touch that added to the experience. Sipping on a local beer while surrounded by such natural beauty was truly unforgettable.
After our rejuvenating soak, we grabbed a quick and tasty lunch at Röff bistro. The fish and chips were a hit, crispy and flavorful, and the perfect fuel for our next adventure. The bistro had a relaxed atmosphere, and the views of the surrounding landscape added to the charm. I made a mental note to try their lamb dishes next time, as I heard they were a local favorite.

Our afternoon took a delightfully quirky turn as we headed to the Húsavík Eurovision Exhibition. Now, I wouldn't consider myself a Eurovision fanatic, but I was curious to see what this small town had to offer in terms of celebrating the iconic song contest. And I must say, it was an absolute blast! The exhibition pays homage to the town’s role in the Netflix movie *Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga*, which, as it turns out, is a pretty big deal here.

The exhibition was small but packed with memorabilia, costumes, and information about Iceland's Eurovision history. It was fascinating to learn about the country's participation in the contest over the years. I even got a kick out of seeing some of the more outlandish costumes and stage props. What struck me most was the genuine enthusiasm and pride the locals have for their connection to Eurovision. The movie has clearly had a significant impact on the town, bringing a sense of joy and recognition to Húsavík.
We spent a good hour exploring the exhibits, laughing at the over-the-top performances, and learning about the cultural significance of Eurovision. It was a fun and lighthearted experience, a perfect contrast to the serene morning we had at GeoSea. Apparently, the exhibition also features interviews and documentaries, which we unfortunately didn't have time to watch.
For dinner, we decided to try Lókal Bistro, a charming café known for its crepes and locally sourced ingredients. The bistro had a cozy atmosphere, and the staff was incredibly friendly. I opted for a savory crepe filled with Icelandic lamb, while Isabela chose a sweet crepe with berries and cream. Both were delicious. The bistro is conveniently located near the harbor, offering lovely views of the water. It was the perfect spot to unwind after a busy day.

After dinner, we decided to check out the Geosea Bar for a nightcap. It was the perfect way to end the day, sipping on local beers while enjoying the stunning views of the bay under the moonlight. The bar had a relaxed atmosphere, and we chatted with some locals, sharing stories and experiences. It was a great way to connect with the community and learn more about Icelandic culture.

Tomorrow, we're planning to visit Goðafoss waterfall and Grenjaðarstaður, the Old Turfhouse [If it's anything like today, I know I will be amazed by the beauty and history of this place. I'm also excited to try some local cuisine at Nesti for breakfast, Pizzakofinn for lunch and Jaja Ding Dong Húsavík for dinner. And perhaps a little shopping at Icewear! Good night!
