A Friday in the Blue Pearl

Today was all about soaking in the true essence of Chefchaouen, diving headfirst into its vibrant culture and stunning landscapes. Lena and I, along with our friends, set out with a plan to explore, taste, and experience everything this blue city had to offer. And boy, did it deliver!

Our day started with a hearty breakfast at Chez Aziz. I'd read some great reviews, and it was conveniently located near our hotel. It was the perfect way to fuel up for a day of exploring. The traditional Moroccan breakfast spread was incredible. There was an assortment of pastries, flavorful Moroccan tea, and the staff was amazingly hospitable. It really did feel like a home away from home.

With our bellies full and spirits high, our first stop was Ras El Ma. Walking through the maze-like streets of the medina was an experience in itself, each corner revealing a new shade of blue and a different perspective of the city. The air was filled with the sounds of locals going about their daily lives, children playing, and the gentle murmur of conversations in Arabic and French. We finally reached Ras El Ma, a spring cascading down the mountainside, providing fresh water to the town. The sound of the water was so refreshing, and the sight of locals doing their laundry in the stream was a slice of authentic Moroccan life. I even managed to capture a few good shots with my camera, trying to capture the essence of the place.

The beauty of travel lies not just in seeing new places, but in experiencing them fully, embracing the culture, and connecting with the people who call it home.

Next on our itinerary was Plaza Uta el Hamman, the heart of Chefchaouen. The plaza was bustling with activity. Cafes lined the square, offering mint tea and a place to relax and people-watch. The architecture was stunning, with the kasbah and the grand mosque standing tall, testaments to the city's rich history. We spent a good hour or two just wandering around, taking in the sights and sounds, and soaking in the atmosphere. There were artisan shops selling handcrafted goods, textiles, and souvenirs. I picked up a beautiful, hand-painted ceramic bowl for Lena, a little something to remind her of our trip.

For lunch, we headed to Tissemlal, a restaurant recommended by a local we met earlier in the day. The restaurant had a cozy downstairs area and a beautiful terrace with stunning views. We opted for the terrace, wanting to enjoy the sunshine and the panoramic scenery. The food was delicious, a true celebration of Moroccan cuisine. We shared a tagine and some grilled meats, savoring every bite. I was particularly impressed with the fresh ingredients and the flavorful spices. Lena, ever the adventurous one, tried the crispy pastry filled with fish, and she absolutely loved it.

As the sun began to set, we decided to check out Restaurant Bar Chaouen. I had read that it was one of the few places in town that served alcohol, and we were in the mood for a relaxing drink. The bar had a lively atmosphere, with a mix of locals and tourists. We ordered some local beers and sat back, enjoying the music and the company. It was the perfect way to end a day of exploring.

For dinner, we chose Restaurant Morisco, enticed by its rooftop terrace overlooking Plaza Uta el Hamman. As the evening descended, the plaza transformed into a magical scene, with the blue buildings illuminated by warm lights. The food was good, but the view was the real star of the show. We dined on traditional Moroccan dishes, enjoying the cool evening breeze and the lively atmosphere of the square.

Today felt like a true immersion into the soul of Chefchaouen. From the refreshing waters of Ras El Ma to the bustling energy of Plaza Uta el Hamman, every moment was a sensory delight. Sharing laughter and stories with Lena and our friends over delicious meals made the experience even more special. It's moments like these that remind me why I love to travel – the chance to connect with different cultures, discover hidden gems, and create lasting memories with the people I care about most.

Tomorrow, we're planning to venture a bit outside the city and explore the natural beauty of Parc National de Talassemtane and Jebel Bouhachem Nature Reserve. I'm especially looking forward to hiking through the forests and taking in the stunning mountain views. We'll start the day with breakfast at Café Sindibad, then grab lunch at Restaurant Ali Baba before heading back to town for dinner at Chez Hicham. I also want to check out Jabir shop chefchaouen; Lena wants to get some souvenirs. I'm sure it'll be another day filled with adventure and discovery.

As I sit here writing this, I can't help but feel grateful for this experience. Chefchaouen has a way of captivating you, of drawing you in with its beauty and charm. It's a place that I know I'll never forget, and I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

It’s interesting to note that there was an event, Ftour&Network, taking place today in Casablanca. It sounds like a great opportunity for entrepreneurs to connect and network. Perhaps next time, I'll plan my trip around such events.

Good night from Chefchaouen!
