Blue Memories: A Final Day in Chefchaouen
As my Moroccan adventure draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the past ten days, especially this final day in the captivating blue city of Chefchaouen. It's amazing how a place can leave such an indelible mark on your soul. With Lena and our friends, I set out to soak in every last bit of this magical town before our journey back to Berlin.
Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Moulay Ali Ben Rached. The restaurant, recommended by a few locals, offered a charming spot to enjoy traditional Moroccan fare. I opted for a classic tagine, while Lena enjoyed some fresh pastries. The flavors were rich and authentic, a perfect start to our last day. It’s funny, I’ve always been more of a savory breakfast kind of guy, but Lena’s love for pastries is definitely starting to rub off on me! We sat there, sipping mint tea and reminiscing about our favorite moments from the trip.

After breakfast, we decided to take one last stroll through the medina. The blue-washed streets were as enchanting as ever, and I couldn't resist snapping a few more photos. We made our way towards the Chefchaouen Gate, a landmark that I had admired several times during our stay. There’s something so inviting about walking through those gates; it’s like stepping into another world.

The beauty of travel lies not just in seeing new places, but in the way those places change you.
Next on our agenda was Bab El Hammar. We wanted to explore the area and learn more about its history. According to local lore, Bab El Hammar was once a bustling hub for trade between Chefchaouen and other regions of Morocco. I found myself imagining the donkey drivers and merchants who once passed through this gate, their goods destined for distant markets. It's fascinating how much history is embedded in these ancient walls.

For lunch, we ventured to Restaurant Jbaria, another local favorite. The menu featured a variety of Moroccan and Mediterranean dishes, and we were eager to try something new. I decided on the goat tagine with dates and raisins, while Lena chose a vegetarian couscous. Both dishes were bursting with flavor, and the service was impeccable. I must say, the avocado-tangerine smoothie was a delightful surprise! The restaurant was cozy and inviting, and we felt right at home.

In the late afternoon, we decided to relax at Café Mundial. This café is known for its vibrant atmosphere and stunning views of the city. I ordered a Moroccan coffee, while Lena enjoyed a refreshing mint tea. We sat there, soaking in the sights and sounds of Chefchaouen, and watched as the sun began to set over the mountains. It was the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring.

As the evening approached, we made our way to Restaurant Dar El Salam for our final dinner in Chefchaouen. The restaurant was beautifully decorated, and the ambiance was warm and inviting. We ordered a variety of Moroccan dishes, including tagines, couscous, and grilled meats. Everything was delicious, and we savored every last bite. It was a fitting end to our culinary adventures in Morocco.

After dinner, we decided to enjoy one last cup of mint tea at Café Mundial before calling it a night. As we sat there, sipping our tea and gazing out at the twinkling lights of Chefchaouen, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for this incredible experience. This trip has been a wonderful blend of relaxation, cultural immersion, and good times with friends.
Chefchaouen has a certain magic about it. Maybe it's the striking blue hues that adorn every building, or perhaps it's the warm and welcoming nature of the locals. Whatever it is, this town has captured my heart, and I know that I will never forget my time here.
Thinking back to when I first arrived in Berlin from Foumban, Cameroon, I never imagined I would find myself so drawn to another culture. But Morocco, with its vibrant colors, rich history, and delicious cuisine, has a way of captivating you. And sharing this experience with Lena and our friends has made it all the more special.
Tomorrow, we begin our journey back to Berlin. While I'm excited to return home, I know that a part of me will always remain in Chefchaouen. The memories we've made here will stay with me forever, and I'm already looking forward to the day when I can return to this magical blue city.
Reflecting on the Trip Essentials
As I pack my bags, I'm reminded of the list I made before embarking on this adventure. Camera? Check. Travel Guidebook? Check. Comfortable Walking Shoes? Absolutely necessary! Sunscreen and a Hat? Definitely came in handy. Travel Adapter? Essential for keeping my devices charged.
However, I did forget a couple of items: a raincoat and a power bank. The raincoat would have been useful during the occasional showers, and the power bank would have saved me from the stress of running out of battery on my phone. Lesson learned: always double-check your packing list!
Final Thoughts
As I prepare to leave Chefchaouen, I can't help but feel a sense of gratitude for this incredible experience. This trip has been a perfect blend of relaxation, cultural immersion, and good times with friends. I'm so glad that Lena and I decided to explore this magical blue city, and I know that the memories we've made here will stay with us forever.
And to anyone considering a trip to Chefchaouen: do it! You won't be disappointed. Just be sure to pack your camera, your walking shoes, and an open mind. This is a place that will capture your heart and leave you with memories that will last a lifetime.
