A Fond Farewell

As our week-long adventure in the Slovak Paradise National Park draws to a close, I find myself filled with a mix of contentment and a touch of melancholy. This trip, undertaken with my wonderful wife Katarína, has been nothing short of spectacular. From the challenging hikes through breathtaking gorges to the tranquil moments spent amidst lush forests, every experience has etched itself into our memories. Today, we take a more relaxed approach, soaking in the last glimpses of this beautiful region before we begin our journey back to Potsdam.

Our final day began with a hearty breakfast at Salaš Čingov. The rustic charm of the place, coupled with the aroma of traditional Slovak dishes, was the perfect way to start the day. I opted for the *bryndzové halušky*, while Katarína enjoyed a simple yet satisfying omelet. As we savored our meal, we reminisced about the adventures we had over the past week, from conquering the ladders of Suchá Belá to the serene moments by the Hornád River. It felt surreal that our journey was nearing its end.

It is not the destination that matters, but the journey, and the memories created along the way.

With our bellies full and spirits high, we set off towards Tatranská Lomnica. The drive itself was a treat, offering panoramic views of the High Tatras. Tatranská Lomnica, a charming village nestled at the foot of the Lomnický štít, exuded a serene atmosphere. We decided to take a leisurely stroll through the town, admiring the traditional architecture and soaking in the crisp mountain air. I couldn't resist snapping a few photos, trying to capture the essence of this picturesque place. We explored the town, taking in the sights and sounds of this charming mountain resort. The air was crisp, and the views were simply stunning.

Our next stop was DUHA - darčeky, pohľadnice, mapy. I wanted to find a few mementos to take back home, something to remind us of this incredible journey. We browsed through the selection of postcards, maps, and local crafts, finally settling on a beautifully illustrated map of the Slovak Paradise and a few hand-painted wooden ornaments. These little treasures would serve as a reminder of our adventures and the beautiful landscapes we had explored.

Lunchtime found us at Chata Kláštorisko, a mountain hut renowned for its traditional Slovak cuisine and stunning views. The *kapustnica* (cabbage soup) was a must-try, and it warmed us from the inside out. Katarína chose the *vyprážaný syr* (fried cheese), a classic Slovak dish that never disappoints. The cozy atmosphere of the *chata*, combined with the breathtaking scenery, made for a truly memorable dining experience.

As we enjoyed our lunch, we chatted with a few fellow hikers, sharing stories of our adventures in the Slovak Paradise. It was heartwarming to connect with others who shared our love for nature and exploration. We learned about hidden trails and lesser-known viewpoints, adding them to our mental list for future visits.

Before heading back, we made one last stop at a local gem DUHA - darčeky, pohľadnice, mapy. I always make it a point to bring back little souvenirs from our trips, and this shop was perfect for finding unique, locally-made items. Katarína picked out a beautiful hand-painted ceramic bell, while I chose a collection of postcards featuring scenes from the Slovak Paradise.

For our final dinner in the region, we chose Reštaurácia PONIKLEC, a cozy restaurant known for its hearty meals and welcoming ambiance. We both opted for traditional Slovak dishes, savoring the flavors one last time. The warm, inviting atmosphere of the restaurant was the perfect setting to reflect on our journey and share our favorite moments.

As the day wound down, we found ourselves reflecting on the incredible experiences we've had. This trip to Slovak Paradise has been more than just a vacation; it's been an immersion into the heart of Slovakia's natural beauty. The challenging hikes, the stunning vistas, and the warm hospitality of the locals have all left an indelible mark on our souls. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to share this adventure with my wife, Katarína. Her unwavering enthusiasm and adventurous spirit made every moment even more special.

Although our time in Slovak Paradise has come to an end, the memories we've created will last a lifetime. As we prepare to return to our home in Potsdam, I carry with me a renewed appreciation for the beauty of nature and the importance of cherishing every moment. Until next time, Slovak Paradise, *dovidenia*!

Looking ahead, there isn't a specific itinerary for tomorrow since our trip concludes today. We plan to drive back to Potsdam, Germany, cherishing the scenic route and the memories we've created throughout this incredible journey. While we may have forgotten the mosquito repellent and binoculars, the experiences and sights we've encountered are something we'll never forget. The Slovak Paradise National Park, with its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage, has undoubtedly earned a special place in our hearts. Until our next adventure, *zbohom*!
