As my journey on Kangaroo Island nears its end, I find myself reflecting on the incredible experiences I've had. Today was all about savoring the last moments, embracing the natural beauty, and enjoying the island's culinary delights. It's amazing how a place can capture your heart so quickly, and I'm already planning my return!

My final day on Kangaroo Island began with an early start and a hearty breakfast at Beach Barista. Fueled by coffee and a delicious pastry, I set out to tackle a portion of the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail. The trail is a five-day trek showcasing the island's remarkable beauty, but I only had time for a small section of it. The section I chose offered stunning coastal views and a chance to immerse myself in the island's unique flora and fauna.

The Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail was amazing! I only wish I had more time to hike the whole trail. The trail wound along the coastline, offering breathtaking views of the Southern Ocean. The rugged cliffs and pristine beaches were a sight to behold, and I felt a sense of awe at the power and beauty of nature. The trail was well-maintained and easy to follow, and I enjoyed the solitude and tranquility of the hike.

I kept an eye out for wildlife along the way, and I was not disappointed. I spotted several kangaroos grazing in the distance, and a variety of birds soaring overhead. The wildflowers were in full bloom, adding splashes of color to the landscape. I took my time, soaking in the scenery and enjoying the fresh air. It was the perfect way to start the day.

After my hike, I drove to Stokes Bay, a secluded beach on the island's north coast. Stokes Bay is known for its unique entrance through a natural rock tunnel, which adds to its charm and allure. As I walked through the tunnel, I felt a sense of anticipation, wondering what awaited me on the other side.

Emerging from the tunnel, I was greeted by a pristine white sandy beach and a sheltered rock pool. The water was crystal clear and inviting, and I couldn't resist taking a dip. The rock pool was perfect for swimming, and I enjoyed the refreshing coolness of the water. I spent some time relaxing on the beach, soaking up the sun and enjoying the tranquility of the surroundings.

As I reflect on my journey, I realize that the most enriching experiences often come from embracing the unexpected and immersing oneself in the local culture. Whether it's sampling regional cuisine, exploring hidden gems, or connecting with fellow travelers, these moments create lasting memories and broaden our perspectives.

Sometimes, the best way to appreciate a place is to simply slow down and let it reveal itself to you.

For lunch, I stopped at Kangaroo Island Fresh Seafoods in Kingscote. I indulged in some freshly caught King George whiting, cooked to perfection. The fish was succulent and flavorful, and it was a true taste of the island. I savored every bite, appreciating the simplicity and freshness of the ingredients.

In the evening, I treated myself to a farewell dinner at Samphire Restaurant in American River. Samphire is known for its elegant seven-course degustation menu, showcasing the best of local produce. The restaurant has a focus on seafood, and the menu changes regularly based on market availability. I opted for the tasting menu, eager to experience the chef's culinary creations.

After dinner, I decided to check out the Kangaroo Island Yacht Club, a local bar in Kingscote. The yacht club has a relaxed and friendly vibe, and it's a great place to meet locals and enjoy a drink. I sipped on a glass of local wine, chatting with some of the regulars and soaking in the atmosphere. It was a fun and lively end to the day.

As I sat there, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the experiences I've had on Kangaroo Island. From the stunning natural landscapes to the delicious food and the friendly locals, this island has captured my heart. This trip was exactly what I needed; a break from my hectic life in Toronto. I was able to fully disconnect from work and the stresses of everyday life. I feel refreshed and ready to tackle whatever challenges come my way back home.

While there, I learned that Kangaroo Island Council often hosts events, but there doesn't seem to be any today. There also seems to be a couple of women's retreats coming up soon.

Tomorrow, I'll be heading back to Adelaide to begin my journey home. I'll be taking with me memories that will last a lifetime. Kangaroo Island, you've been amazing!

Kangaroo Island has so many great food options, from seafood to wineries. I made sure to try and experience as much as I could. I'm so glad I did this solo trip; Isabella and Sofia would have loved it, but it was great to get away by myself and recharge.

I definitely recommend Kangaroo Island to anyone looking for a unique and unforgettable travel experience. Whether you're interested in wildlife, nature, food, or simply relaxing, this island has something to offer everyone. Just be sure to pack a portable phone charger, unlike me!
