Farewell, Lost City!

As my Colombian adventure draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey to Ciudad Perdida. What began as a physical challenge evolved into a profound exploration of history, culture, and personal resilience. Today was all about savoring the final moments in this vibrant region, soaking in the sights and flavors of Santa Marta before heading back to Berlin.

The morning started with a hearty breakfast at Crepes & Waffles Zazué [i]. I opted for one of their signature crepes, filled with local cheese and sweet plantains – a delightful combination that perfectly fueled me for the day ahead. It was a little different than my usual Puerto Rican breakfast, but I'm always open to new culinary experiences. I'm glad my friends and I decided to try something new, as it turned out to be a great way to start the day [i, 31].

Our first stop was San Fernando’s Fort [i]. This historical structure, built in 1725, stands as a silent sentinel overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The fort was constructed to protect Santa Marta from pirate attacks and enemy powers. As I walked through its stone walls, I imagined the soldiers who once stood guard, defending the city against invaders. The panoramic views from the ramparts were breathtaking, offering a stunning vista of the coastline and the city. The fort is located at the tip of La Pedrera, on the San Fernando hill, between San Carlos Beach and Lipe Beach. The sea breeze carried whispers of the past, and I felt a deep connection to the history of this place. It was amazing to see the blend of the fort's historical significance and the natural beauty of the area.

Travel is more than seeing the sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.

After exploring the fort, we were ready for lunch. We headed to Restaurante Doña Ana [i]. Although some say it is located in Minca, we found one closer to the city center. This charming spot offered a taste of local cuisine with a focus on fresh seafood. I ordered the *cazuela de mariscos*, a hearty seafood stew that was bursting with flavor. The restaurant had a cozy, family-friendly atmosphere, and I enjoyed chatting with the staff and learning more about the local culinary traditions. The meal was a delightful reminder of the simple pleasures in life – good food, good company, and a beautiful setting.

As the afternoon wore on, we strolled through the historic center of Santa Marta. The city's colonial architecture, with its colorful buildings and charming plazas, captivated me. We visited the Museo del Oro Tairona, also known as the Gold Museum, where we saw a fascinating collection of pre-Columbian artifacts. The museum provided valuable insights into the history and culture of the indigenous Tairona people, whose ancestors built Ciudad Perdida. Learning about their rich heritage added another layer of depth to my understanding of the Lost City.

For our final dinner in Santa Marta, we chose BURURAKE [i]. This restaurant offered a unique culinary experience with a focus on traditional Colombian dishes with a modern twist. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the menu featured a variety of creative dishes that showcased the region's diverse flavors. I decided to try the *arroz con coco*, a classic coastal dish made with coconut rice and fresh seafood. It was a delicious and satisfying meal that perfectly captured the essence of Colombian cuisine.

To celebrate the end of our trek, we decided to check out the nightlife at La Azotea Disco Bar Santa Marta [i]. Located in the Parque de los Novios, this rooftop bar offered a lively atmosphere and stunning views of the city. We danced to a mix of Latin rhythms and international hits, enjoying the company of locals and fellow travelers. The energy was infectious, and it was a perfect way to cap off our incredible adventure. It was great to just relax and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere after so many days of hiking.

Reflecting on the past nine days, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to explore Ciudad Perdida with my friends. This trek has been more than just a physical challenge; it has been a journey of self-discovery, cultural immersion, and unforgettable memories. I'm also grateful that I was able to share the experience with my friends, as we motivated each other when we needed a boost to keep going. I know I will treasure these experiences for years to come. From the lush landscapes of the Sierra Nevada to the ancient ruins of the Lost City, every moment has been a gift. As I prepare to return to Berlin, I carry with me a newfound appreciation for the beauty and resilience of Colombia and its people.

Although my trip is officially over, I know that this is just the beginning of my adventures in South America. I'm already thinking about where I want to go next, and I can't wait to share my experiences with you all. Until then, *adiós* from Santa Marta!

As I pack my bags, I realize I forgot to buy sunscreen and extra socks! Note to self: double-check the essentials next time. Overall, though, this trip was a success, and I'm glad I got to experience it with friends. I'm sure I'll be back to South America soon, but for now, it's time to head back to Berlin.

I'll never forget this journey to Ciudad Perdida. The memories, the challenges, and the friendships forged along the way will stay with me forever. Until next time, keep exploring!
