Solo Adventure in Chapada Diamantina: Exploring Brazil's Natural Wonders
Day 11: Chasing Waterfalls and Local Brews: A Day of Discovery in Chapada Diamantina
Immerse yourself in Chapada Diamantina with a visit to Cachoeirinha and Cachoeira da Entocada, topped off with local craft beers.
Hidden Gems and Refreshing Brews
Today was all about embracing the raw, untamed beauty of Chapada Diamantina and rewarding myself with some well-deserved relaxation. I set out to explore two of the park's lesser-known waterfalls, Cachoeirinha and Cachoeira da Entocada, and ended the day with a visit to a local brewery. It was a day of contrasts, from challenging hikes to tranquil swims, and from the quiet solitude of nature to the lively atmosphere of a local pub.
The day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurante Sabor da Serra. Fuelling up with some traditional Brazilian fare was essential for the adventures ahead. I made sure to have a little extra, knowing that the day's hikes would demand a lot of energy. I made a mental note to try and recreate some of the dishes back in my Berlin kitchen – a little taste of Brazil to brighten up those German evenings.
First up was Cachoeirinha. The trail was relatively easy, meandering through the typical landscapes of the region. As I approached, the sound of the falls grew louder, and soon I was greeted by the sight of the small but charming Cachoeirinha. The water was crystal clear and inviting, perfect for a refreshing dip. As the name suggests, Cachoeirinha is a small waterfall, but it is the perfect spot to relax after the morning hike. I took my time, enjoying the tranquility and snapping some photos. It's amazing how a place like this can make you feel so disconnected from the world, even though I am only a few hours away from Lençóis.

The best views come after the hardest climbs.
Next on the agenda was Cachoeira da Entocada. This waterfall is known for being more challenging to reach, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. The trail was much more rugged, with steep inclines and rocky paths. I had to watch my step carefully, but the challenge was exhilarating. The hike took me through some incredible scenery, with panoramic views of the Chapada Diamantina. The views were definitely worth the effort!
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I arrived at Cachoeira da Entocada. The waterfall was stunning, cascading down a high cliff into a clear pool below. The power of the water was mesmerizing, and I stood there for a while, simply taking it all in. This spot felt like a hidden sanctuary, far removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I took a refreshing swim in the cool waters. The experience was invigorating, washing away the fatigue from the hike. This waterfall truly felt like a reward for the challenging trek.

After a fulfilling day of hiking and swimming, it was time to relax and unwind. I headed back to Lençóis and made my way to Cervejaria Sincorá, a local brewery known for its craft beers. The brewery had a laid-back atmosphere, with locals and tourists alike enjoying the evening air. I ordered a couple of different beers to sample, each with its unique flavor profile. It was fascinating to taste the local ingredients and learn about the brewing process from the friendly staff. Sipping on a cold beer after a day of hiking was the perfect way to end the day.

I decided to stick around Restaurante Sabor da Serra for dinner as well. After such a long day, the idea of venturing out to find another spot was not appealing. I enjoyed another hearty meal, reflecting on the day's adventures. I also started planning my itinerary for tomorrow. Tomorrow I will be visiting Poço Encantado and Cachoeira Capivara. Poço Encantado, or the Enchanted Well, is a mesmerizing, crystal-clear pool inside a cave where the sunlight creates an ethereal blue glow. I've heard it's an incredible sight, especially when the sun is directly overhead. After that, I'll head to Cachoeira Capivara, a beautiful waterfall known for its natural pools and serene surroundings. I'm hoping to get some great photos and maybe even take a dip if the weather is right. And if I have time, I plan to visit Miscelania, a local shop known for its unique souvenirs and artisanal products.
As I sit here, writing this blog post, I feel a sense of accomplishment and gratitude. Chapada Diamantina continues to surprise me with its diverse landscapes and hidden gems. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings, but for now, I'm content with the memories of today's adventures.
This trip has been an amazing experience, and I'm so glad I decided to embark on this solo journey. As someone who grew up in the coastal town of Salinas, Puerto Rico, I never imagined I'd find such incredible natural beauty in the heart of Brazil. It's moments like these that remind me why I love to travel and explore the world.
Before heading back to my accommodation, I made a quick stop at a local shop. I wanted to pick up a few small souvenirs to bring back to Berlin. Maybe a little something to remind me of the warmth and vibrancy of Brazil when I'm back in the cooler climate of Germany. Plus, I promised my friends I'd bring them back something special.
I think I'll sleep well tonight, dreaming of waterfalls and craft beer. Until tomorrow!
P.S. I almost forgot to mention! During breakfast, I overheard some locals talking about the Festa Junina celebrations that are starting up in other parts of Brazil. Apparently, Caruaru and Campina Grande are the places to be for the biggest festivals. It sounds like an incredible experience, with music, dancing, and traditional food. Maybe I'll have to check it out sometime if I have the time. It seems like the festivities will start as early as April and last for an incredible 72 days!
Embark on a 15-day solo journey through Brazil's Chapada Diamantina National Park, exploring breathtaking waterfalls and vast plateaus.
