Today was a day filled with beauty, creativity, and delicious food, perfectly encapsulating the essence of the Loire Valley. It’s days like these that remind me why I love exploring new places with my family, creating memories that we'll cherish for years to come.

Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Restaurant le 36. The sun streamed through the windows as we enjoyed fresh pastries and coffee, setting the perfect tone for our adventures. After breakfast, we made our way to the Château de Chaumont. The castle itself is steeped in history, but it was the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire that truly captured my heart. As a floral designer, I was eager to see the International Garden Festival, and it did not disappoint. The theme for 2025, 'Once Upon a Time in the Garden,' was wonderfully interpreted by landscape artists from around the globe. The gardens were a riot of color and creativity, each one telling a unique story through its design and plant selection. Sophie was particularly fascinated by one garden that featured a miniature village made entirely of natural materials, while Andreas enjoyed the more abstract installations. I found myself sketching furiously in my notebook, inspired by the innovative use of textures and hues.

Wandering through the Domaine, we also encountered several art installations that were part of the Season of Art 2025. The installations, scattered throughout the grounds, added another layer of depth to the experience. Sophie Zénon’s exhibit, 'L'herbe aux yeux bleus,' in the Asinerie, was a highlight, blending art and science with its delicate plant impressions and archival photographs. The connection between nature and art was palpable, reinforcing the Domaine’s reputation as a premier Centre of Arts and Nature. It was interesting to see how contemporary artists were inspired by the natural world, much like I am in my own floral designs.
Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.
After spending the morning immersed in art and nature, we were ready for lunch. We chose Auberge Pom'Poire, a charming restaurant known for its regional cuisine. The reviews I had read promised a gastronomic journey, and they were spot on. The setting was idyllic, nestled in the Loire Valley countryside, and the service was warm and welcoming. We opted for the 'Sensation Pom'Poire' menu, which showcased the chef’s creative use of local ingredients. Each dish was a work of art, both visually stunning and incredibly flavorful. Andreas particularly enjoyed the fish course, while Sophie raved about the dessert, a delicate pastry filled with seasonal fruits. I savored every bite, appreciating the chef’s attention to detail and the harmonious blend of flavors. It was a truly memorable meal, and I felt grateful for the opportunity to experience such culinary excellence.

In the late afternoon, we returned to Chaumont-sur-Loire, seeking a relaxing spot to unwind. We found ourselves at Le Vieux Château bar/brasserie/terrasse, a cozy establishment with a lovely outdoor seating area. We ordered some local wines and enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere, watching as the sun began to set over the Loire Valley. It was the perfect way to reflect on the day's adventures and recharge before dinner.

As evening approached, we drove to Amboise for our dinner reservation at Restaurant Le Château de Pray. This restaurant, located in a stunning Renaissance-era château, promised a fine dining experience, and it certainly delivered. The ambiance was elegant and romantic, and the service was impeccable. Chef Arnaud Philippon’s menu was a celebration of French cuisine, with a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients. We started with the marinated red tuna, which was light and refreshing, followed by the roasted veal, which was cooked to perfection. For dessert, we indulged in the soufflé with blackcurrant from Touraine, a delightful ending to a perfect meal. The restaurant also offered stunning views.

After dinner, we took a leisurely stroll through Amboise, admiring the Royal Château illuminated against the night sky.
