Today was all about soaking in the peaceful side of Guimarães. After days filled with castles and historical landmarks, Hans and I decided to dedicate today to the city's green spaces and local flavors. It was a welcome change of pace, allowing us to appreciate the quieter, more reflective aspects of this charming city.

Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Restaurante Prós & Contras. The aroma of freshly baked bread and strong coffee was the perfect way to start the morning. I opted for a classic Portuguese pastry, a *pastel de nata*, while Hans enjoyed a hearty sandwich. The restaurant had a cozy, local feel, and it was clear that many of the patrons were regulars, chatting and laughing with the staff. It felt like a warm embrace, a lovely way to ease into the day.

With our stomachs happy, we set off to Vista panorâmica de Guimarães. The panoramic view was breathtaking! Next on our list was Parque da Cidade, a sprawling green oasis in the heart of Guimarães. As we strolled through the park, we were surrounded by lush vegetation and the soothing sounds of nature. Families were picnicking on the grass, children were laughing on the playground, and couples were enjoying leisurely walks. It was a vibrant scene, a testament to the importance of green spaces in urban life. I was particularly impressed by the park's thoughtful design, with walking paths, fitness equipment, and even a small lake. Hans and I found a bench under the shade of a large tree and simply enjoyed the tranquility of the moment. I was amazed by the versatility of cork and the creativity of the artisans who worked with it. I ended up buying a beautiful cork handbag as a souvenir, a unique reminder of our time in Guimarães. It reminded me a bit of home, as I remember my grandmother in Ouro Preto having similar items.

As the day drew to a close, we made our way to Monte dos Leitões for dinner. This restaurant is famous for its *leitão assado* (roasted suckling pig), a regional specialty. The pig was cooked to perfection, with crispy skin and tender, juicy meat. It was a truly unforgettable culinary experience. The restaurant had a lively atmosphere, filled with locals and tourists alike, all eager to sample this iconic dish. Hans, ever the adventurous eater, thoroughly enjoyed the *leitão*, while I savored every bite of the accompanying sides, including roasted potatoes and greens.

As we walked back to Hotel De Guimaraes, the city was bathed in the warm glow of twilight. The day had been a perfect blend of relaxation, exploration, and culinary delights. I felt a deep sense of contentment, grateful for the opportunity to experience the beauty and charm of Guimarães. It's amazing how a change of pace can bring a new perspective to a place, revealing hidden gems and creating lasting memories.

Tomorrow, we plan to visit the Museum of archeology D. Diogo de Sousa and Bom Jesus do Monte, two more must-see attractions in the area. I'm particularly excited about Bom Jesus do Monte, with its stunning baroque staircase and panoramic views. But for now, I'm content to savor the memories of today, a day of serene discoveries in the heart of Portugal.

It's hard to believe that our trip is coming to an end. I'm already feeling a bit nostalgic, but I know that we'll be taking home a wealth of memories and experiences that will last a lifetime. Guimarães has truly captured my heart, and I can't wait to share more of our adventures with you all.

Before I close for today, I wanted to share a funny anecdote. While we were at Good Cork, Hans tried to haggle for a better price on a cork wallet, using his limited Portuguese. The shop owner, a kind old man, chuckled and said, *Cortiça de qualidade não tem desconto!* (Quality cork has no discount!). It was a lighthearted moment that perfectly captured the spirit of the city – proud, authentic, and full of character.

And on a final note, it seems Jethro Tull will be performing here in Guimarães in October of next year! I know Hans is a big fan, so maybe we'll have to plan another trip back!
