A Day Among Giants

Today was a day of breathtaking vistas and rich cultural experiences here in the Imlil Region. The crisp mountain air invigorated us as we embarked on a journey that combined challenging ascents with heartwarming encounters. It's days like these that remind me why I traded the familiar streets of Heidelberg for the rugged trails of Morocco.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurant Terrase d'Imlil. The spread was a delightful mix of traditional Moroccan fare and familiar breakfast staples. The fresh bread, local honey, and strong coffee provided the perfect fuel for the day ahead. As we ate, we enjoyed panoramic views of the valley, the rising sun painting the landscape in hues of gold and amber. It was a truly idyllic start to our adventure.

After breakfast, we set off towards Biguinoussene. The trek was challenging, but the stunning scenery kept us motivated. The trail wound its way through rocky terrain, with occasional patches of green where hardy shrubs and trees clung to the mountainside. As we climbed higher, the views became increasingly spectacular, with the entire Imlil valley stretching out beneath us. The air was crisp and clean, a welcome change from the city air I'm used to. I must admit, I missed my portable phone charger, as my phone battery was draining faster than expected with all the photos I was taking. Hans, ever the prepared one, reminded me that we could pick one up at Simply Moroccan later.

The mountains are calling and I must go.

Reaching Biguinoussene was an exhilarating experience. The sense of accomplishment, combined with the awe-inspiring views, created a moment I'll never forget. We took some time to soak it all in, snapping photos and simply breathing in the fresh mountain air. It was a moment of pure bliss, a reminder of the beauty and power of nature.

After our descent, we made our way to Auberge Atlas Tamatertt for lunch. The auberge was a charming, traditional Berber guesthouse, with colorful carpets and intricate tilework. We sat on a terrace overlooking the valley and enjoyed a delicious meal of tagine and couscous. The flavors were rich and complex, a testament to the skill of the chef and the quality of the local ingredients. We met a lovely family from France who were also staying at the auberge, and we shared stories of our travels and experiences. It's moments like these that make traveling so rewarding – the chance to connect with people from different cultures and backgrounds.

In the late afternoon, we stopped by Simply Moroccan, a local shop in Imlil. I had been hoping to find a replacement portable phone charger, and Hans wanted to pick up a few souvenirs for his colleagues back in Heidelberg. The shop was a treasure trove of Moroccan crafts, from colorful textiles and intricate ceramics to hand-carved wooden items and fragrant spices. I found a beautiful, hand-painted bowl that I knew would look perfect on our dining table back home. And Hans, true to his nature, found a practical portable phone charger.

For dinner, we decided to try Restaurant Atlas Eco. The restaurant had been recommended to us by several locals, and we were eager to experience its traditional Moroccan cuisine. The restaurant was cozy and inviting, with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. We ordered a selection of dishes, including harira soup, tagine, and couscous. Each dish was bursting with flavor, a testament to the chef's skill and the freshness of the ingredients. As we ate, we listened to the gentle sounds of traditional Moroccan music, which added to the ambiance and created a truly magical dining experience.
